In what is kind of sort of a victory, the Oakland Raiders and former members of its cheer squad, the Raiderettes, settled a lawsuit in which the super demanding cheerleaders asked if the team would mind complying with existing labor laws, thanks. Instead of earning only $125 per game in a single paycheck delivered at the end of the season, Raiderettes will earn $9 an hour from now on, plus overtime, for the estimated 350 hours each cheerleader puts in each year, including rehearsals, practices and mandatory community and charity appearances. Their annual compensation will rise from about $1,250 to about $3,200.
Now wait a goddamn minute. These women are oblivious to market forces, because there is absolutely no other place where you can get a beautiful woman to dress up in a cheerleader outfit and bounce around for you for only $150... uh, according to a friend of mine.
Actually, some of the extracurricular work can pay real well. I've had some of the NFL and NBA girls on corporate gigs and they made bank (or at least billed out rather well. I don't know the structure as far as billing). That was part of how they justified paying so poorly at games- they were giving the women an opportunity to make real money on outside work.
They should be employed by and paid by the TV networks and not the teams, since the only spectators who can even see them are viewers of the television broadcast.
Exactly. Plus, the job comes with certain intangibles. Like the opportunity to date handsome, rich, and yes, possibly violent football players, for starters. You can't put a hourly value on that. Plus, they shouldn't be in it for money. They should be in it for the love of the game and the opportunity to date handsome, rich, possibly violent football players.

Is there such a thing?

That's not saying much
because handball was taken?

"That, for those of you without an “Esquire” after your names, is ILLEGAL."
For those with an "Esquire" on their coffee table, just never mind.
Yeah ... but that's a fortune in exposure dollars!
150 Bucks?? Is somebody charging extra for the cheeleader outfit?
Maybe someday, after we get rid of all the other religions.
Or product placement opportunities.
Wyoming couldn't fill a stadium, even if everybody went.
What about Raiditrixes?
Raiderettes? What a dumb name. What about Pilferess?
They wouldn't want star QB Ben Ruthlessfucker to lose his focus.
