Seriously, what the hell is a pedestrian check? We really want to know.

You know what a body check is in hockey, right? Kinda like that, only much worse.

Good god, what a clusterfuck. When is somebody, anybody with real gonads going to get in there and address these awful problems with police procedure and the general racism of everything they do? It's long past due.

Or, you know, I guess when we get around to eating the rich, the members of the police force will make a lovely appetizer.

Cop was probably gonna check the kid for ebola. Prince Duncan II says it's here already, after all.

No, wait, it's ISIS. They're here. Same thing, prolly.

Unless the "suspects" were running deeper INTO whatever private property this guy was patrolling, I have no idea why he would LEAVE HIS SECURITY POST to run after them and initiate the "confrontation" that lead to the shooting.

In general this is why using cops interchangeably with private security is a bad idea. It makes sense for SOME jobs, public venues such as stadiums or fairs where the private security is present but may need more experienced/capable backup if a situation gets out of hand. It doesn't make sense to have a cop patrolling a private area after dark, fully armed. Thats what ACTUAL private security is for, and you know what they can do in less time than it takes to shoot a teenager 17 times? Call the cops.

I can't wait to hear from the NRA on this one, as I thought they loved people with concealed weapons standing their ground against some guy chasing and yelling at them who is also armed but of otherwise uncertain identity. Sadly the demographic and melatonin issues with the victim will probably limit their supportive response :P

Some history of this private security arrangement. Shaw is an improving neighborhood. Houses previously split into apartments are being converted back to single-family homes. The Residents Association wanted additional police patrols in this neighborhood some years ago, but the police declined because it would be taking away resources from higher-crime areas. The Residents Association then contracted with a private security company to provide off-duty police, the company was originally (and still may be) Hi-Tek Security. Some years ago an off-duty officer working for Hi-Tek attempted to stop someone for a traffic offense, and pulled a gun when the driver wouldn't stop.
