Oh Dear, Glenn Greenwald Pulled A Glenn Greenwald Again
Somebody's lyin'!
On Saturday, Glenn Greenwald saw a story in the New York Times about how the US is mucking around in Russia's power grid in a show of power:
In interviews over the past three months, [current and former US] officials described the previously unreported deployment of American computer code inside Russia's grid and other targets as a classified companion to more publicly discussed action directed at Moscow's disinformation and hacking units around the 2018 midterm elections.
So Glenn Greenwald, being a total Glenn Greenwald, used that moment to defend his president, Donald J. Trump, because OMG it is just crazy that the liberals and the Deep State and the Rachel Maddow think Trump is some kind of puppet of Vladimir Putin, just because he constantly acts like a puppet of Vladimir Putin.
HAW HAW, LIBS OWNED! Isn't Donald Trump always saying nobody's tougher on Russia than he is? Glenn Greenwald agrees that nobody is tougher on Russia than Donald Trump, because Donald Trump says so.
As Aaron Rupar from Vox points out, this tweet from Donald Trump arrived just about eight hours later ...
TREASON! The New York Times is doing TREASON to write a FAKE NEWS story about Donald Trump bein' mean to Russia, because everybody knows the definition of TREASON is, um ... well, for a president who's probably some kind of Russian intelligence asset, treason is now defined as a crime against the Kremlin.
Anyway, the point is that Greenwald's earlier tweet was now invalid, so he dropped the whole thing, right? LOL, you must not be familiar with Glenn Greenwald.
The Times explained that Trump probably doesn't know much about this operation, because of how there are legitimate fears as to what he might do with such classified information:
Two administration officials said they believed Mr. Trump had not been briefed in any detail about the steps to place "implants" — software code that can be used for surveillance or attack — inside the Russian grid.
Pentagon and intelligence officials described broad hesitation to go into detail with Mr. Trump about operations against Russia for concern over his reaction — and the possibility that he might countermand it or discuss it with foreign officials, as he did in 2017 when he mentioned a sensitive operation in Syria to the Russian foreign minister.
This is not surprising. They can't show him certain high level intel, because they can't trust him not to tweet it directly at America's enemies. Hell, they can't talk about election security or mention Russia in the White House, because Emperor Pantyshits is too thin-skinned and views it as an attack on the legitimacy of his election, which was not legitimate.
And oh yeah, as the Times mentions, there was that time Trump literally leaked code word level Israeli intelligence to the Russians in the Oval Office the day after he fired the FBI director to obstruct the lawful investigation into Russian attacks on the 2016 election. That was one of the primary reasons the FBI started a counter-intelligence investigation into whether or not Trump is a literal actual Russian agent/puppet, or just does it for free.
Between the Greenwald tweet and the Trump tweet, there was a tweet from Rolling Stone , which linked back to the Times article. But we guess Greenwald didn't see the Rolling Stone tweet until the next day. And we also guess Greenwald didn't read the whole Times article before he tweeted the OWN THE LIBS thing above, because he obviously missed the part about how US officials are doing their best to keep the real sensitive stuff about fighting America's enemies from the president of the United States, because that's the reality we live in now. Just kidding. He probably read it, saw it smashed his assertion to tiny bits, and didn't care. Because he's not honest like that.
On Sunday, Greenwald was confronted anew with that information when he saw a tweet from Rolling Stone . He didn't exactly move the goalposts -- he moved to an entirely different soccer stadium and tried to pretend he had been there the entire time:
LIBS OWNED! You see, um, because Deep State something something underpants gnomes ... PROFIT!
Of course, Greenwald gets even the basic facts wrong there, or rather elides the facts he doesn't want to confront. Yes, there is a possibility Trump could choose Russian interests over American interests and order our intel agencies to stop fighting to protect our elections and push Russia back. But also it says right there in the piece that part of what they're worried about is the president really choosing Russian interests and undermining our intelligence agencies, by directly telling Putin about it during one of their sexxx chats.
That seems important.
After that tweet, we see Greenwald RT-ing whatabouters, as a way to get in another moment of LIBS OWNED! -- this time directed straight at Rachel Maddow, who makes Glenn Greenwald very mad.

We are not going to bother to find the tweet, but we remember when Rachel Maddow did that report that Greenwald was so mad about it.
Of course, the whatabouter Greenwald retweeted seems to have the same affliction Greenwald has, which renders him unable to read the entire fucking article he's linking, because he's too busy owning the libs and showing how America is the real enemy or something. He calls the idea of Russia hacking our power grids "projection," because actually America is doing that to Russia ( in response to what Russia has been doing to us). Of course, he doesn't get around to explain how that fact -- that America is doing it to Russia -- somehow disproves the notion of Russia doing it to us.
It's too bad the Times doesn't address that, just kidding yes it does:
Advocates of the more aggressive strategy said it was long overdue, after years of public warnings from the Department of Homeland Security and the F.B.I. that Russia has inserted malware that could sabotage American power plants, oil and gas pipelines, or water supplies in any future conflict with the United States.
That's the third paragraph of the Times piece. The third graf .
Idiots, all of them idiots, just ... fuck.

By “rest of what he’s done” you must mean his numerous journalism awards including a pulitzer for exposing little things like the illegal wholesale surveillance of the entire citizenry by the NSA/CIA.
Yes you should absolutely be upset about the exposing of the extent of the surveillance state we’re living in. But not at Glenn.
Perhaps you could take a second out to thank him and Snowdon too while you’re at it because as a result of their revelations encryption is now the norm, Apple and the rest of the telecoms don’t just let the NSA build “backdoors” into their devices anymore and you me and everyone else are a lot more aware of their right to privacy and just how important that privacy really is.
