Yep, I once happened to be just a few seconds behind our royal prince Laurent of Saksen Coburg Gotha entering a bookstore and he kept the door open for me. Customer is king, prince is but a prince. Not that I am a staunch royalist now but at the end of the day they too are but human beings.

Once in college I did have a woman in the row in front of me in a lecture hall berate me (in pretty strong terms) for reaching over and helping her get her very large coat (it was January in Michigan) off her shoulders. That was in the early 70s. That's the entirety of my unpleasant experiences with common courtesies.

I'm a college professor now. I see men holding doors for men, women for women, men for women, and women for men pretty much on a daily basis.
