How are they defining "the upper middle class"? Gotta love this thinly veiled attempt to suggest that non-wealthy people are somehow being hurt by a little taxation.
Personally I LOVE IT when there’s a really direct parallel between what is getting taxed & what it pays for.
It’s harder to get people to understand how state lottery fees fund college attendance in Georgia. It’s a weird sell to say, “let’s let poor, desperate people many with limited common sense pay for middle class kids to go to college.”
“Rich people’s luxury transportation is paying for everyone else to ride the bus for free” … *chef’s kiss*
I didn’t know who Tanvi Patel was so did a search and found an aol.com article about the incident. There was a link to another article about three young female aides which explained a lot. Especially the middle of the night posts.
‘According to insiders who spoke with the Wall Street Journal, Harp is the driving force behind Trump's frequent Truth Social outbursts. She allegedly prepares stacks of drafted social media posts for the president's review and sign-off. Once approved, she accesses his account and publishes the content in batches.’
‘"Truth Social has never been hotter, and it's because President Trump offers his unfiltered and direct thoughts to the American people, without the biased media taking him out of context," White House Communication Director Steven Cheung said in a statement to the WSJ. "We don't discuss internal deliberations of how the process works, but no other social-media tool has been more effective than Truth.”’
Yeah ... it sways all 150,000 actual human subscribers. The media should ignore anything on Lie Social ... read it, but don't reprint it. Make them issue news information from tje press office via standard means.
Verizon stopped running their own email server about 10 years ago and gave all their customers free AOL accounts. I think their old verizon.net address just forwarded to their new AOL address, but you had to use the AOL client to access the mail, not Thunderbird or Eudora or (gack gack) Outlook. As far as I know, I still have my AOL account, probably full of spam, but haven't logged into in years. I already had a gmail account that I switched over to but (until I retired last year), had a second email account at work that I used for almost all my personal email. (It's good to be email king of a small networking company!)
I have heard of some that have a flavored coating, too. (Bad tasting)
Rug rats have a propensity for putting anything that fits into their mouth.
I have pill-sized hearing aid batteries, that are the zinc-air sort, with holes in the side to let air in after you remove the seal. I imagine that they would react in exciting ways in the presence of stomach acid.
I saw that this new coating also comes off and makes the kid’s mouth BLUE, allowing parents to know a battery has been put in their mouth and possibly swallowed right away, rather than being clueless.
Because chemical decomposition releases lots of extremely toxic substances into its environment (typically a toddler's digestive tract. Eating batteries is a common reason for poison control center calls and ER visits. The sooner they are treated, the better. It's not like eating a roll of old-fashioned gelatin-based film, where nothing will develop.
One of my younger brothers drank about 1/4 of a cup of TIDE detergent when he was a toddler. My mom left the detergent measured out in the cup on the edge of the washing machine and my brother ran over and tried to chug it, thinking it was unattended Koolaid.
So Pale Male’s ex has taken up with a younger mate, and there’s at least one little one.
From the 1990s until his death in 2023, Pale Male was the red-tailed hawk that was famous for the Fifth Avenue address and the girlfriends. Now Octavia, the name given to his last mate, has returned to the nest they shared — with someone else.
“So much drama,” said Stella Hamilton, a birder who has watched Octavia since 2014, even following her to stealthy rendezvous with another hawk during the Pale Male days. Then, after Pale Male’s death, “she was kind of picky about selecting a mate,” Hamilton said. “Every year she would have a boyfriend, but it wouldn’t last. Just not satisfied with their nest-building skills, or whatever.”
The birding world doesn’t seem to have settled on a name for the new guy. But in the last few days, the two of them have been seen doing the things new parents do, like flying off for takeout — a rat, or perhaps a pigeon. There have been occasional glimpses of a fuzzy whitish ball — a chick. There is no consensus on how many eggs Octavia laid: Birding world’s binoculars and telephoto lenses can’t see into the nest.
Nor do birders know much about “her new fellow,” said David Barrett, who maintains the Manhattan Bird Alert account on X. And what can be discerned from photographs is soap opera-worthy.
“There’s this huge age difference,” Barrett said. The new male’s eyes “are still a bit yellow,” while Octavia’s are “quite dark.”
“That’s the usual pattern of aging in hawks,” he said. “I wouldn’t say he has the bright eyes of a juvenile, but his eyes are not totally dark, either. We can say he’s not an old adult. Maybe just 2 years old, maybe just 3 years old.”

Well, I got up yesterday and my power was out which meant NO COFFEE so I went back to bed instead of going to the gym. I ended up going out for a walk in the afternoon to make up for it.
The saga of my missing tax refund is over as it finally arrived yesterday. I used it to pay my Affirm accounts ($300), cover a couple of group meals I charged ($150), and paid my other credit card down a bit. Looking forward to this summer when I can really make a dent in it. After this summer, my budget is tight for the next two years as I pay my way through school, but at least I'll be making a good dent in my big credit card bill that I plan to have paid off by my 50th birthday in November of next year.
Election official training today, so I'll be here to tell you all the new ways the MAGA piece of shit GQPs are on the ground trying to block you because they ALWAYS have questions about voter fraud and IDs at yhe training. Hope I can stay awake.
Speaking of NO COFFEE, why do hotels with in-room coffee makers always leave more of the decaf packets than non-decaf? This morning, ONE non-decaf packet and 3 decafs! GRRR....
It's probably something REALLY obvious, like people actually drink MORE regular - so the hotel has less of what is used the most. Either the hotel, or the cleaner for the room on their cart, is running low on regular. But the set up in the room needs X amount of packets to look "full"
Thus, fill it with decaf and it's usually passable/not cared about until the following morning. And the workers probably barely make minimum wage.
So, just like at the grocery store when there is 35 flavors/versions of whatever product, EXCEPT the original/non-flavored version which is what I want. Drives me cray cray.
Well worth thinking about. We have 2 electric cars and with our setup are pretty much off grid for 4-5 months a year and the amount we get paid for generating pays the electric bill the rest of the year. We're in the UK so regs may be different where you live but we've had some area power cuts we didn't even notice until the street WhatsApp group complained about them.
A computer UPS might be enough for coffee. They typically have two 12V 8 amp-hour batteries, so 200 watt-hours or so. Maybe it runs the coffee machine five to ten minutes?

Usually if an animal enjoys being petted, you don't have to tightly grip its throat while you pet it.
Couch scooter ftw
Is she petting or strangling that swan? OR BOTH!!???
If we have to pay taxes, why even have a billion dollars in the first place?
Asking for 812 of my friends.
"Why do we even let you have a billion dollars in the first place?" Is a question we should all be asking.
Neither Colbert nor Kimmell can soften the blow of our having to fork over money to patr- FOTUS's pockets.

I found an article on that aol site related to Truth Social. The headline reads "Is this nightly habit shrinking your brain?"
I didn't know aol still existed. I wonder if I've got mail?

Um, what has this to do with private jets?
I kind of conflated flying on AF1 with a private jet where they have young women available as “aides”. Apparently, these three fly with him.
YES!!!

Good morning, gd!
I just saw an ad about a battery that is coated in a way to not corrode if swallowed. YT ads are off the fucking hook.
I have heard of some that have a flavored coating, too. (Bad tasting)

Don't worry about the rug rats' oral fixations- just don't let stuff get swallowed.
Shocking. Seems an ad charged with liability suits. Can't wait to hear how they turn the negative publicity into a positive.
I wonder if the product exists. I would think something like that would break into bigger media instead of a random YT ad I can skip in 15 seconds.
Energizer is doing it for button cell batteries. I already saw a print ad for them.
Call me cray, but I am wondering WHY anyone thought they should make a battery that is coated to not corrode if swallowed.
Is this a children swallow x amount of batteries per year thing?

You’d be surprised.

Enough that they add a coating to them, which interferes with conductivity in some circumstances.
PICA was the first thing that entered my mind.

I would suggest a nice bonfire, but those things would probably emit toxic fumes.
If I lived in Louisiana, I would sure be wondering why my governor was spending all his time in Greenland.

Yes, it's like they are trying to get rid of the decaf nobody wants.
Ha, I just wrote something similar 😅
Your first sentence is the number one reason I’m considering expensive battery backup to my solar panels.

Yeah there used to be incentives but turnip cut them.
It’s expensive, but it does pay off.
Regs in Maine aren’t bad. The town gets a fee$
