I like "...the Brundecral (which is their Alcoran)." And did you notice how the actual text said the people may choose their own way, but that's been forgotten in practice? I think that's what was meant.

Did you see the attack on Natalie Portman by Rose McGowan? I was so bothered by it. I think it would have been great if NP could have said, "Yeah, I just didn't think about it." Like, she didn't think about making movies with women directors. To sort of break a curse. Because I would like it if it could be understood that Rose McGowan doesn't know what's in Natalie Portman's head. I'm pretty sure she hasn't heard of any objectionable or criminal things in there. So she ought to be content to keep quiet and do her own righteous thing. It's the tabloid viewpoint-- the assumption of total knowledge that permits strangers to judge everybody on every point, even tho it's always the stupidest viewpoint that takes NOTHING into account. Like the way they talk about Melania because she's a golddigger and a slut, but I say who knows anything about her? She's unusually silent! This kind of thinking also lends itself to these big groupings-- massive simplicity, and no room for anything invisible like benevolence or things the general public hasn't heard about. That's how you get to dehumanizing the groups so you can carry out the fascism. It's so bad and getting worse.

I read that it was the Hatfields and McCoys that changed the Northern perception of Southerners. Or at least the perception of the rugged, romantic people of Appalachia, who figured in all the songs.
