Who was an investigative reporter, and knows the Florida scene, so the incredibly weird stuff that happens in his novels would be just slightly modified from real events, I assume.I love Hiassen's (wait, isn't it Hiaasen?) recurring character of Clinton Tyree, sports star, war hero, and also the only honest governor Florida ever had (fictional, of course). The good old boys of his state soon saw that he was a deranged menace (he opposed corruption) and levered him out. The fix was in and the opposition iron-hard to every last thing he tried to do.The poor bloke went slightly nuts and lived feral and wild in the Everglades until he died.Lots of people came to believe he was a myth and never existed. It sounds more like sober truth than a lot of stuff I read in the real (?) news.

I’ve been a bookseller for twenty years and I still can’t spell Carl’s last name correctly consistently!
