Poor young David, rejected and despised by all, had his first jobs at the National Review and the Wall Street Journal. He was never leftist. Why does he feel the need to lie about that?

David Brooks: a mediocre guy who attended a top-flight university and writes for the 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘕𝘦𝘸 𝘠𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 who is always pissing and moaning about "elites" as if he's not the bellybutton gazing stereotype of one. And that's all he does. Doesn't contribute one iota to the needs - economically OR culturally - of civilization. But will always kibbitz while others are trying to make a better world. That's what he's supposedly paid to do.

Nice work if you can get it, I suppose.

I remember hearing Chris Hayes had a book coming out and it had elites in the title. I felt alarmed on his behalf knowing David Brooks would come after him. And he did!! I felt likely he’d consider Chris Hayes too young and low-status to presume in that way.

His whole schtick has always been to recycle other people's (dumb) ideas. He's a typist, at best.

David Brooks always goes into the 'fuck right off then fuck off some more' pile.

His daddy should've hugged him more when he was a kid. Or something.

I'm wondering if the Irish Setter that Brooks keeps for photo-op purposes, Moral Hazard, will have anything to say about this. When Charles Pierce has to write about Brooks, he channels it through Moral Hazard, who generally ends up licking his own balls in contemplation.

Oh why does he even have to have his dog represent his ‘complexity’ and specialness?

Moral Hazard, to be clear, is a mythical creature invented by Charlie Pierce to make fun of Brooks' pedestrian and self-important blather.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, one of the most troubling things about Yale is that it paid David Brooks six figures to teach a class on humility.

The syllabus apparently consisted entirely of his own writings.

I feel bad about David Brooks. Not bad for him, just about him. Whenever I'm reminded he exists.

Is he talking about the same Top- Level schools that produced Trump, Pompeo, Cruz, Desantis, Kennedy, Cotton and a host of other fasci fucktards?

“positive-sum society where all people can see their lives improve together”

And who exactly is standing in the way of that? (Hint: it is NOT "radical progressive elites). It is interesting that Brooks chooses to ignore the fact that all this "wokeness" and "DEI" only even exist because the right is constantly waging culture war against anyone non white/straight/male/"christian".

It is also very telling that Brooks thinks woke/DEI are not about "solving problems". Very white/elite of you, Dave. Obviously if something doesn't affect YOU, then it simply isn't real. Brooks self owns and doesn't even realize it. It is the right wing elitists' efforts to define who "real Americans" are (themselves) and ensure everyone else knows their place that have wrought all of David Brooks' consternation. Imagine if that guy ever had a moment of self realization. I doubt he'd survive.

From what I understand, having attended a mere state university, the only advantage to attending the elite schools is to make connections with the current elites. The idea that this would have helped me in my career as a special educator is risible.

Many elite universities still turn out exceptional scientists and research. I assume its the business and law schools that do little more than network.

State universities do that as well, but I think we were talking about whether it makes sense for everyday schlubs like you and I (or just I!) to be going to Harvard when we can still attain a good education at Oregon State University.
