this country really is now run by the stupidest people in the world- and they are proud of their world demolishing stupidity. The energy from renewables is so much more expensive- and the rubes must believe it!

If the Rethugs had a platform, which they don't, the first plank would be "vote against ANYTHING that might help us".

It makes baby Jebus cry.😕

Another reason these children hate renewables is because they don't make big "vroom vroom" noises. They thing solar and wind power is "weak" but coal and oil is more "potent," pollution-concerns be damned. (Besides, the Rapture is coming any minute anyway, so why bother? Also it's arrogant to think puny man can destroy Christian Gawd's creation.)

Just like their fellow MAGAt trash, Tim Allen, they want "more power" ["Comedic" grunting noises]

"'They resort to calling us names instead of listening to us,' Traywick told me."

Why should we listen to you filthy hicks? You're demonstrably, provably WRONG!

And we only call you names because it would be illegal to inflict violence upon your regressive person, regardless of how much you deserve it.

So shut the fuck up and do as the experts tell you, shitkicker.

Mike_Cramer's avatar

Also, we'll call you inbred shits whatever we goddamn please!

In my day job in academia, among other things I work with an oil and gas company that is developing a green hydrogen production plant in OK. Most O&G companies know the hydrocarbons are not going to flow forever, and they are preparing for that, because that's what shareholder capitalism demands of well-run companies.

Or at least they were. As with everything these MAGA clowns do, they're hurting their own people as much as they're owning the libs.

This is what happens when people who don't understand how anything actually works elect other people who don't understand how anything works to run the show.

And as Charlie Pierce has taught us, the state legislatures are the minor leagues through which the next generation of federal legislators will come. While the Democrats weren't paying attention in the 2010s (what else is new) the GOP made sure to cement their hold on state leges. And here we are.

Zap's avatar

Apparently Democrats are never paying attention.

Here's another fun fact: the domestic O&G industry isn't interested in drilling on federal lands. They've got plenty of productive wells already and they don't see new projects in, say, Alaska as worthwhile. "Drill baby drill" is just a carny show run by MAGA snake oil salesmen.

Ta, Dok. I'll quote young Greta Thunberg: How Dare You?

How is banning renewables enabling a "free market"?

Regret's avatar

Free like BOGO marketing stunts, not Free like Freedom!

Mike_Cramer's avatar

Because the people who want clean energy are "commies." It's just like how they square their economic views with their support of Christianity: Jesus must support capitalism because Marxists tend to be atheists.

These mouth breathers are all "free market!" til it does something they don't like. They're all "small government!" til there's something they want to regulate. They're all... what's the word? ...hypocrites.

Mike_Cramer's avatar

Free markets! (Except for weed and porn.)

Tonight's entree: a melange of winter squash, onion, hot pepper, ground beef, pinto beans and brown rice. Will make tacos for days. Or put it all in a bucket.

GEM's avatar

You can have all the squash, tho.

So “freedom” now means “ban anything we don’t like.”

We are truly in the Upside Down.

clairence's avatar

I think it's always meant that to them

Over 20 years ago I went to a wind blade plant start up. Went up the stairs to the project engineers and saw a bunch of dirty Euro socialists. (The tell is they are almost all skinny, plus well groomed and stylish clothes.) Shaking hands with the Plant Managas asked where they were from. We are mostly Danes. Why is that? We are the experts. Depending on the wind we get 1/3 to 1/2 of our power from it. A great dude, even if a commie.

Soon we’ll be at war with them over Greenland.

clairence's avatar

we'll shut off their wind!

Wookiee Monster's avatar

Maybe you could do that for California. They need a break from the winds that are feeding the fires.
