Sadly, the tradition is to support the incumbent, probably because it is assumed they can hold the office. This handicaps us, when a better candidate comes along, as happened here.
Bless your heart. I guess being able to understand a word is a privilege reserved for those who "work with language for a living." I'm just a simple poster with a graduate degree in English from Doc's alma mater, the University of Arizona.
I really should have taken that "what do words mean" class.
The definition of terrorism is also not "instilling terror."
Look, this actually matters. One of the reasons you can tell Republicans are liars is that they ignore the definition of words. They call antifa terrorists, but they also call Fauci a criminal, so we know they're liars. When I call what happened on Jan. 6th an insurrection, I don't want some illiterate saying that we called the NRA terrorists, so I'm lying.
I know you all have google. I am absolutely not copy/pasting a dictionary definition here.
I took issue with your tone in stating the "words have meaning" as if I didn't know that.
Terrorism: "the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims."
The debate here to my mind centers on whether paying politicians to vote against legislation that protects citizens from mortal threats constitutes violence to the body politic.
Violence. "the unlawful exercise of physical force or intimidation by the exhibition of such force. (legal def.) Also, strength of emotion or an unpleasant or destructive natural force."
Do the actions of the NRA result in the harm or death of individuals?Yes. They do. That is violence and since it is in service of political aims, terrorism. Osama Bin Laden didn't fly the planes.
As an aside, I don't think you need worry that an illiterate is going to take issue with your phrasing, definitions, or framing of an argument.
Illiterate: "someone who is unable to read or write".
I see you read the word "use" as "actions that result in" while "especially civilians" became the "body politic." Show me where the NRA "uses," not causes, "violence and intimidation" against actual people, not a vague political concept, to further their political ends. You're basically pretending that murder and conspiracy to commit murder are the same thing.
BTW, I liked the pedantry with the definition of illiteracy, but in addition to writing I sometimes also speak. Turns out illiterate often have a poor understanding of spoken words.
Hopefully, McLeod-Skinner isn't too progressive for the district. It includes some liberal Portland suburbs, but also some really conservative parts of the state. I don't know anything about her Republican opponent.
Any time he wants to, President Biden can end student debt with a stroke of his pen.
Loyalty is a two-way street. When elected Democrats decide to be loyal to their voters rather than to their Republican "friends across the aisle," I think they'll be surprised to discover how many people will suddenly want to vote for them.
Thanks to redistricting I am now gerrymandered into this congressional district. I am one of those progressive Portland suburban voters. I got so many flyers from Kurt Schrader the last few months it actually made me mad and more motivated to vote for mcleod-skinner. Literally one in my mailbox every day and a few on my doorstep every week. Ironically they all touted his advocacy for climate protection. I probably wasn't going to vote for him anyway so I was very disappointed when Biden endorsed him.
There are candidates and current people in the legislative offices all across the country who went through the way of individual donations. They are at the gates day in and out defending our country from corporate influences. They deserve our thanks and support.
I'm not even in Clackamas County and I got more from him than from my Congressman.
Thank you for this information! That's really reassuring.

They always endorse the incumbent, it is not personal.

Seriously, you just compared John Cale covering someone to Debbie Boone doing "Respect"? That's just wrong in more ways than I can count. Dang.
It's ironic that terrorist profiles tend to look towards Muslim men when they should be looking at all men who really, really like weapons.
Supporting school shootings (which are usually not terrorism) is actually not the same as committing school shootings.
You need to get ahold of a dictionary. The definition of terrorism is not "anything violent and deadly that we don't like. "
Hopefully, McLeod-Skinner isn't too progressive for the district. It includes some liberal Portland suburbs, but also some really conservative parts of the state. I don't know anything about her Republican opponent.
I don't think the joke was entirely deliberate. Calling for political opponents to be put down isn't really a wonkette thing, it's a republican thing
