There would be no reason for a spacecraft to be shaped like a needle. On water or flying through air requires it to have that design, in space - not so much. You would be more interested in enclosing as much physical area as possible, so a ball or a cube shape would be more appropriate.

And no, you aren't going to be landing a 400 m long object on a planet. On Earth the biggest plane is the Antonov An-225 Mriya which is 83 m long and can just haul itself and 250 tonnes of cargo aloft. They might have some weird anti-grav thing, but it wouldn't make sense to just set down when you are spending most of the time in a weightless environment and would build to reflect that.
