"...people only have so much of a threshold for misery before the unreasonable starts to sound reasonable"

That's why I roll my eyes at people who chide others for celebrating this guy's demise.

My daughter recently required surgery that no doctor in the network could do. Therefore she was referred to a surgeon out of network. His services were not covered and she had to front $5,000 for care her network recommended. Thank goodness she had the reserve cash to do it. Most working Americans do not. This is a national shame.

This POS was earning fuckillions from ripping off people by denying health care ended up getting shot and killed? Couldn't he at least suffer a few years, then get his claim denied and finally end up without a pot to piss in or window to throw it outta. Not that I'd now feel sorry for is ass, I just think the motherfucker got off too fucking easy

I never used United Healthcare, so I feel about the same way I felt when I heard Pablo Escobar was killed.

I see the anesthesia will now be paid for the full surgery per an article this morning. Maybe that company's CEO didn't want to fuck around and find out!

I'm sure others will/have posted similar stories, but here is a nugget about how United Healthcare used AI to deny coverage: https://arstechnica.com/health/2023/11/ai-with-90-error-rate-forces-elderly-out-of-rehab-nursing-homes-suit-claims/

Can't say I'm *happy* about a killing... but the reality is, bonusing off of withholding life-saving treatment is like standing between the Karma Bus and a 20-foot-tall electromagnet.

"Can't say I'm *happy* about a killing"

I can, if that helps.

Context really really matters.

Think Sandy Hook. Think the offing of Bin Laden. Both involved killing. The circumstances couldn't be more different. You might as well be talking bicycles versus giraffes

I've often said that I don't understand why Americans aren't rioting in the streets over the way private healthcare screws them. This might be a tipping point - and I am NOT saying that's a good thing, but an inevitable outcome of messing with people's lives at their most vulnerable.

"and I am NOT saying that's a good thing"

Moot point. And you totally nailed it...It literally is what it is. This is what happens when you keep throwing rocks at the hornets nest. This is closer to being a law of physics than it is a moral conundrum. A kind of if/then equation. People can only be abused for so long before they will fight back. That's all this is. And if it ends up being the straw that breaks the camels back, then unfortunately I have to say that I'm in favor of it. How many people have died because of this motherfucker. How is this motherfucker's life any more precious or important than the hundreds of thousands of lives he's ruined? Why is everyone on the left expected to performatively denounce this 'act' that has come closer to being a game changer than any legislation or ruling that our failed government and justice system has put forth. We already tried that path. Over and over and over again. For decades. And now finally we are talking about this stuff that has been swept under the rug for generations just because of one murder. How can I denounce the thing that finally gets us talking. It wasn't like some innocent kid was killed. A monster was removed from this earth. I will not not celebrate that... I'm sorry...

"We have a social safety net in order to keep things from getting to the point of guillotines."

John Kenneth Galbraith once wrote, "I am a liberal because I am a conservative," meaning that he, too, back then (1950s) hoped to avert an uprising with guillotines.
