If I were an enemy wanting to attack the US now would be a pretty good time with all the layoffs, chaos and idiotic wastes of time such as dei purges going on.
Ta, Dok. Fascism is never fun, especially when it's working to replace hundreds of years of democracy. I want the entire maladministration to DIAF, without votes.
For a fictionalized version of some of what happened here and abroad WWII era, I urge you to read Marge Piercy's best novel, Gone to Soldiers. I don't want to post spoilers, but it includes the deportation of French citizens because Jewish, and the women who flew planes. It's an incredible read, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. In fact, I have to buy a copy of it.
Maybe this is a stupid question, it occurred to me overnight: are they *deleting* deleting this photos, removing them from the server, dumping them in the trash, emptying the bin, as opposed to removing them from websites and such?
I spent the day visiting New Philadelphia National HIstoric Site in Barry, Illinois and 1908 Springfield Race Riot National Monument in Springfield, on the grounds that it was not unlikely Trump and Ryan Zinke would be deleting them as soon as they can. The first one is the site of the first subdivision created by a man who had bought his freedom out of slavery, just across the river from Hannibal, Mo., and used the proceeds of the sale of lots (it was an integrated community) to purchase the freedom of the rest of his family. The town was bypassed by the railroads (wonder why?) and eventually abandoned. The site was the subject of a Time Team America episode on PBS and then made into a National Historic Site in 2023. The other was one of President Biden's last national monument designations last year, and commemorates the site of a riot by whites against Blacks, not unlike the more famous Tulsa riot, but literally within walking distance of Abraham Lincoln's home and the Illinois State Capitol building (I can say that authoritatively, because I parked at the Lincoln Home to get my NPS passport stamp and then walked to where the plaques are, passing the Capitol on the way).
"In some cases, photos seemed to be flagged for removal simply because their file included the word ”gay,” including service members with that last name and an image of the B-29 aircraft Enola Gay, which dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, during World War II."
My eyes rolled so hard, they hit the back of my skull.
i've seen the Enola Gay at the Udvar Hazy (i think it was there, i'm A Old so ?) . . . that is one aircraft that should be remembered forever . . . NOT WITH PRIDE! . . . it marks the first of two instances where nuclear weapons were used against human beings . . . this should not be forgotten.
i realize that Harry Truman used both strikes to try to force Japan into surrender without invading the islands with the possibility of 1,000,000 American casualties (and likely as many or more Japanese).
the second bomb, in my not so humble opinion, drove home the fact that one bomb = one city . . . without that second bomb, some fool would have thought "that was just a fluke" we can survive that, and tried to use nuclear weapons again in war . . . it put teeth in the "mutually assured destruction" concept that kept the cold war from becoming hot . . . and it might just be still keeping that maniac putin from actually doing more than threaten.
[ if you get the chance, see the Udvar Hazy, it has a wonderful and terrible collection of historic aircraft . . . a blackbird, the Spirit of St. Louis, an F14 (it is HUGE), a Concorde, a 747, a space shuttle, ... ]
I'm in driving distance of the Evergreen Museum. Home of another WW2 relic. Howard Hughes' Spruce Goose.
The Enola Gay and Bockscar need a special site as representatives of the Atomic Age and the only weapons ever deployed with atomic munitions to destroy an enemy.
Going out on a limb here but while this sort of thing may have had a degree of efficacy amongst the illiterate Soviets of the post-WW2 CCCP, progress has been made since the widespread and popular use of the manually operated plow. So today it seems likely that some measurable percentage of the U.S. population simply isn't stupid enough to buy the editing of history so cheaply and so readily. Which means the MAGA are doing this mostly as stim for their Constitutionally Ordained Wankfests. 'Now then', they ask, 'where's that box of government-issued two-ply?'
"Recently discovered faked hand written drafts of 'The Art of the Deal' with author's notes on an Ionian scale (?) originally titled 'The Art of the Deal'."
I'm thinking that the only saving grace may be that this whole thing will be too big of a task for these lazy bastards. As indicated by "the Marines have only one civilian staffer available to cleanse thousands of pages and images . . . " and their general tendency to half-ass things and their impatience with doing any job I'm hoping these guys will lose interest, say "job done" and just walk away. Or at least I can hope.
Am I reading this that they're removing pictures of non-white, non-male servicemembers because even showing us pictures of anyone other than white Christian males is DEI? I mean that can't be it right? The reality is that there are non WXM in the military, are we just not allowed to show their pictures anymore? Or are they only removing ones that actively engage in the concept of diveristy ("first female XYZ, etc.) not that this is not maximally stupid and offensive, but there is /some/ difference?

When are they going to change the name of “Enola Gay” to “Enola Straight”?
I know where the actual Enola Gay is but I'm not telling!

So, these feebs think they can simply ignore the Civil Rights Act of 1965?

I am thinking of the archivist who digitized and tagged all those old photos. What a waste.

AI is stupid. Magahats are even dumber.
The mistake behind why Trump DEI purge is targeting a storied WWII plane

I wonder what's in store for the Rosie the Riveter and Port Chicago NPS memorials... I'm betting that no one's getting to go on the Port Chicago tour.

So it is the Corps of Engineers that enjoyed lavish fish monitoring?
someone had to make the sacrifice.
USS Doris Miller (CVN-81) : Let’s see what happens to a planned carrier named after an African-American hero of Pearl Harbor.

How about the USS Joel Greenberg?
I keep waiting for Donnie's EO to change the name of the USS John McCain.
The USS Benedict Arnold? Probably the next posthumous pardon.
Attempt to erase history, again.
He did fire the head of the National Archives. Who knows what he is going to purge there.

Lol. That would require ShitStain McPresident to allow anyone else to take credit. Never. Gonna. Happen.
