Putting the accent on apokalypsis, which you just don't do when transliterating greek, but omitting the accent on régime, is the most perfect bit of pretentious twattery I have ever seen.

I think it's particularly ironic that Thiel can't see how the companies he invested in have directly contributed to the intellectual degradation of the world. The 50 year slowdown in science is in large part because of the loss of the literary mind, the hobbling of the brain by digital technology, and the rise of silicon valley grind culture. Do you think Einstein came to E=MC2 because he subscribed to the "move fast, break things" mantra of "hustle culture" while sitting on facebook? And I'm sorry, but private companies don't advance science or the depth of human wisdom, they commoditize it (usually intro products that no one needs or, in the case of silicon valley, are objectively useless and overvalued). One need only hold up Thiel's "contributions" to society to see he is full of it. You created a money transfer app, dude. You are no Socrates, Sagan, or Einstein.

Thiel and many of the tech/private equity/venture capital people are 'on the spectrum' whatever that means though it's distinctive once you've encountered it and usually incomprehensible when you haven't because there's something inhuman about them. They aren't eccentric because they're intelligent they're intelligent because they're eccentric. Socially, they're out of their minds, the most notable characteristic being a complete lack of empathy.

At it's root 'autism' refers to isolation, detachment, and the sense of being a spectator. This isn't a behavioral thing, subject to modification through socialization, it's a brain thing. They manage to function socially to the extent they do mostly by imitation. Mimesis. But the real thing, the ability to live 'in the world' among their fellow, irreducibly social beings, isn't there. The abstract world is real to them. Humanity, the rest of it, is an abstraction.

We are an abstraction, players in a chess match or video game. Getting millions of people killed potentially means nothing. Note that Musk apparently conquered some video game and the experts, other gamers, can't figure out how. It should have taken more time than he can possibly have. This isn't a measure of his brilliance but of his potential for sociopathy. These are the last people in the world you want running things. All of it relates to Puritanism. Utopianism.

Puritanism played out in such a way that wealth got associated with moral excellence independently of anything. The common ground between techies and evangelicals is unbelievable fatalism. Techies think their rise and wealth and 'victory' was inevitable because they're simply better, an 'elect' like in Calvinism. Social Darwinism meets God-determined destiny. So they're all completely, sociopathically nuts. Their thinking has no meaning.

It's completely cut off from reality. God, biblically, as the Logos, is the source of meaning. Literalism, its enemy. It's why the Bible's most significant passages, thematically and structurally, are the parables. The story is what counts because we live, irreducibly, in stories. Similarly, constitutional 'originalism' is a scam. A power move. Trying to seize the high ground because they're primally, existentially fearful. The fear, like Thiel's brain problems, is essentially a given.

An unconquerable thing. So, it's unbelievably insane to have any of these people running anything, but they seem to periodically end up in charge BECAUSE THEY'RE NUTS. They keep fighting because in their detached, unreal, abstract world it makes sense. So we're living, right now, inside something like Dungeons and Dragons. Which I know nothing about but I assume we're the dragons. Because you have to have dragons. We're in an RPG.

And, welcome to unreality.

If you could pass this on to Peter Thiel, it would be much appreciated.

Dear Peter,

I'd like to apologise on behalf of the UK, for enacting laws without America's permission. Our bad!

And - fuck it - I'm also going to apologise on behalf of Europe, Australia, Brazil and any other country that has made the mistake of thinking they can have their own laws. Even though they haven't given me permission to apologise on their behalf. Because... well they went off and made some laws without permission - so they deserve it.

P.S. Peter! What the fuck are you talking about?
