Politico Now On Full-Time 'Lady Politicians Getting Too Big For Their Britches' Watch

Last week it was Elizabeth Warren, this week it's AOC. Next week it could be YOU!

On the very last day of 2018, Politico published an absurd article about how Elizabeth Warren is "unlikable." Today, Politico took out a hit on Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, because apparently it is on full-time "Lady Politicians Getting Too Big For Their Britches Watch" now. Elizabeth Warren is too cold, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is too hot -- is there a woman alive who is "just right" enough to satisfy Politico's taste in porridge? No, there is only delicious, room temperature Joe Biden , perhaps with a side of Mitt Romney. Sorry, ladies!

The article, titled "Exasperated Democrats try to rein in Ocasio-Cortez," is exactly what you think it's going to be. The blurb even says, " The effort is part carrot, part stick. But it's far from clear the anti-establishment political novice can be made to play ball. "

First of all, the phrase "play ball" does not have positive connotations. It is a thing you say when you are hoping to corrupt someone. Think about it. If you were watching a movie and someone said, "I'm just trying to get you to play ball here," what would you think of that character? What happens next in that story arc, huh? Either the person goes along and it goes poorly and they learn an important lesson about staying true to themselves, or they stay true to themselves and win the day. Duh .

And it's already pretty clear which option AOC will be going with.

The article features bunch of Democrats who mostly refused to go on the record -- supposedly because they're afraid AOC will sic Twitter on them -- talking about how AOC really needs to stop doing all the things that make people like her so much if she's ever going to survive in DC.

Incumbent Democrats are most annoyed by Ocasio-Cortez's threat to back primary opponents against members of their ranks she deems too moderate. But their frustration goes beyond that: Democratic leaders are upset that she railed against their new set of House rules on Twitter the first week of the new Congress. Rank and file are peeved that there's a grassroots movement to try to win her a top committee post they feel she doesn't deserve.

They are upset, reportedly, that she's talked about primarying moderate Democrats -- which, quite frankly, is a stupid thing to be upset about. If moderate Democrats are confident about their ideas, if they truly believe theirs is the best way, that they are what voters want, then they should be able to stand up to a challenge. They should not be threatened by that challenge, and if they don't want to move left, they should stay right where they are and fight for their way. Make a case for it! Convince people!

They are also upset, reportedly, that she is going around telling people to run for office.

They've noticed that Ocasio-Cortez has hired two former organizers from the anti-establishment group Justice Democrats to run her office. One of them, her new chief of staff Saikat Chakrabarti, told supporters during a November conference call that "we gotta primary folks."

Ocasio-Cortez appeared to agree with him during the call, arguing that "all Americans know money in politics is a huge problem, but unfortunately the way that we fix it is by demanding that our incumbents give it up or by running fierce campaigns ourselves."

"Long story short, I need you to run for office," she told progressive activists on the call. "That's really what we need to do to save this country."

Comments like that got Ocasio-Cortez off on the wrong foot with her colleagues, to say the least.

Again -- if people or candidates think that money in politics is not a problem, or that it is a good thing, they are more than free to make a case for that. I don't see anyone doing that, I only ever see people complaining about people complaining about it. If it's such a wonderful thing, if it's something people don't want to give up, then they should explain why . People like AOC because she stands up for what she believes in and then tells people why those things are good. They could do that too, if they wanted.

Also, people like her a lot and want her to be on committees, and that is just unfair.

House Democrats were also unhappy when she made a play for a seat on the powerful Ways and Means Committee. Lawmakers suspected Ocasio-Cortez was behind a massive online campaign pressing Pelosi to appoint her to the panel, though her office said she was not.

Critics inside the caucus felt she didn't deserve it, given her lack of professional experience on tax issues and her status as a freshman.

"It totally pissed off everyone," said one senior House Democratic lawmaker of the campaign. "You don't get picked for committees by who your grass-roots [supporters] are."

Couldn't she just be a little more unappealing so that things like this don't keep happening?

And worst of all, Old Miser Madison left River City the library building but he left all the books to HER.

I am going to be straight with you here, Democrats interviewed for this article, because clearly your PR people were not:  This is a bad look . Seriously. You sound like a bunch of jealous bitches who think that if they talk a bunch of shit about the cool new girl, then people will like you and not her. That is a move that always backfires and turns you into the villain. Do you want to be the villain? No? Good! I don't want you to be the villain either. So   zip it .

I get pettiness. I get how super annoying it is when so many people like a person you don't like and you just want them to stop it and agree that you are better. But if you want to win, that pettiness needs to stay at your own kitchen table . Play a long game. Show, don't tell. Go and be super awesome and get people on your side, and pretty soon you won't even feel the need to be so petty because you've got your own shit going on and you don't feel threatened.

You'll get to be the very cool girl I knew in high school who, when I told her a freshman was sitting on her boyfriend's lap, rolled her eyes and said "Psssssh. I don't compete, " instead of the insecure bitch constantly checking her loser boyfriend's text messages to be sure he's not cheating instead of just dumping his ass.
