No, she's responsible for far more than that. one woman that voted illegally in Texas was given a 5 year sentence for sullying the conduct of our very basis for government. This woman sought to interfere with a citizen's right to vote from a position of authority. She should do serious time.
Houston has always seemed dystopian to me. Used to drive 100 miles out of my way (on my way from New Orleans to Austin, nearly 50 years ago) to avoid the freeways (what a misnomer!) and the brown dome of pollution over the place, and the suburbs went on for miles and miles and miles.....
Also, blue people need to STOP fleeing red states!! That's how they become so damn red!! If all the blues concentrate in a few great, progressive states, we get the electoral nightmare of 2016. Yes, it's great to be surrounded by like-minded people, but no one is going to change the hearts and minds of conservatives in red states by lecturing to them from the coasts. Gotta get in on the ground floor, start swinging some local elections, support the local progressives (they exist everywhere, I promise!) Now, obviously, there are compelling reasons to move from state to state - jobs, family, etc. But I happen to know that quite a few booming economies and great places to live exist in red states. They need MORE blue people, not fewer!! (writing from Northwest Arkansas, home of the University of Arkansas as well as corporate headquarters of Walmart, Tyson, and JB Hunt. Unemployment here is <3%, constant infrastructure projects, amazing biking system - both single track and paved trails. Really a great place to be, but needs more progressives to improve the legislature!! We had a lot of much closer elections this year, but still couldn't quite get over the hump. Help us, don't abandon us!!) **This is not so much directed at OP, as he/she is retired and has done his/her time in red state America, but more towards the general progressive population. I have tons of (white) family in Houston. Something in the water really does make people stupid and racist there. The family that has escaped (to Austin, Dallas, even Arkansas - if you can believe it) have mellowed and become much more progressive. Some even downright liberal!! So, it's something about Houston. Definitely.
