Too many comments here for me to sift through and see if I'm repeating a point that was already made. FWIW, when I first started seeing the Davis article posted on social media, some folks noted that it's not necessarily a gender gap, but a partisan gap. They posted charts showing that there had been little change in the college enrollment of men who identified as Ds, but a huge dropoff in the men who identified as Rs. Given that significantly more men identify as Rs than Ds, it would then make sense that the number of men enrolled overall would decline. Similarly, the number of R women enrolling in college had dropped off, but because more women identify as D than R, the number of enrolled women overall doesn't register any dip in enrollment. Anyway, it's one of those tricky things involving data. Davis did present and interesting piece that makes some salient points, but it may be flawed because she focused so specifically on gender without seemingly controlling for the partisan split which seems to play heavily into the story as well.
The men who fear women should keep leaving classrooms and boardrooms. Eventually, decent people will be in charge of most things. Unless PAB succeeds, then we’re screwed.
They've been spreading this bullshit since at least 1951 with crypto-Nazi* William F. Buckley's "God And Man At Yale" (and probably before.) If this so-called liberal indoctrination worked, the US would make Sweden look like Turkmenistan.
I wish all the assholes with their "suffering with brain fog until some miracle bullshit came along" shit would fuck off. I always set my comments to "newest first" and they're fucking everywhere, at least once every five or six comments sometimes. I keep blocking them but they pop up like weeds on the patio after a few rainy days...
OK, see here's the thing about Kristen Crowley. She has mad experience to be the Chief of the LAFD. If you look at her CV, without her name/photo, your reaction would be, this is a person with just the experience needed to head up a department with critical needs.
But no. These idiots keep insisting she's a DEI hire, despite her 20 years of experience at LAFD.
I really hate these people. As a 45 year resident of LA, we have enough to deal with right now, without assholes like Charlie Kirk deciding that the wrong people are in charge. He would piss his pants in terror if he had to deal with 1/100th of the shit some of these people do.
“male enrollment in veterinary schools had plummeted to 22.4%.”
The biggest factor in men choosing not to enter a field appears to be “the number of women in the classroom,”
Well that's dumb if you're hetero. You'd get to be elbow deep in body cavities while surrounded by huge numbers of women you share an interest with. Granted, the body cavities are non-human, but it is still more tail than the average car mechanic experiences.
(Late to the party but I don't give a shit because I have few important questions I need help answering)
"institute nationwide “school choice” by giving public school money to private religious schools."
1 Just why the fuck are public funds being funneled to private schools (read: babysitting for the well-to--do with some edgecamashion thrown in for kicks and giggles)?
2 *Just why the fuck are public funds being funneled to private schools*?
3 Does anyone think that if, for example, a Hillel school (Jewish) or a Madrassah (Muslim), had students using these federally issued vouchers, that they'd get their funds in a timely manner, if at all?
4 If public funds are being spent in private/religious schools, then shouldn't the public be given some say on minimum required curricula?
5 JUST WHY THE FUCK ARE PUBLIC FUNDS BEING FUNNELED TO PRIVATE SCHOOLS?
(Yes, I'm aware that #s 1, 2, and 5 are already happening, but I still wanna know why.)
YES. This. What part of "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" is so hard to understand?
It bothered me at first when I became a male nurse in the early 90’s. But then I started looking at my paycheck and the flexibility of my hours and it didn’t bother me anymore. Most RNs pull 6 figures these days.
As Dok points out education beyond a GED level and I count scholastic high school curricula rather than vocational minima is about reasoning and critical thinking. The difference is education is the ability and inclination to find out how and why things are the way they and to direct efforts to a more positive course.
Ignorant people feel that someone is to blame if things are not to their liking and will follow someone who tells them who that is. The fires in LA are an example of a bad thing but no one is immediately to blame unless you want to finger James Hargreaves for his spinning jenny that threw weavers out of work or James Watt and his fossil fuel devouring steam engine.
The fuel for these fires is the result of a shift from two winters in an El Niño to the current La Niña climate pattern and climate warming causing Santa Ana wind conditions to occur in January that used to only occur in October. Governors, mayors , and fire chiefs didn't do this. Accelerating fossil fuel consumption did.
Originally, nutrition was a study that was carried out in university home economics departments. As new tools became available, expecially radioactive labeleling to trace metabolic pathways, the University of Wisconsin created the first Biochemistry Department primarily because men did not want jobs in a home economics department.
Current. Ronald Reagan was modeling how to take "pride" in ignorance by 1980. It's been the GOP brand ever since. Look at Bush the Dumber, Tiny Hands, and other heroes of the benighted right.

Good article. It shows where we're headed and it ain't good.

Ta, Dok. This is so very sad, and so very bad, and makes me so fucking mad.

Just look at Bob and Judy; they're happy as can be, Inventing situations, putting them on T.V.

There's also too much fuel in the forests because we don't manage the forests like the Natives used to.

The current outright rejection of reality seems a bit...troublesome.
