It's a good thing Republican presidential candidate (LOL) and brain surgeon (LOL!) Ben Carson has sworn to never speak about The Gay again, or else he might open his mouth and say something like this, when asked about the Supreme Court's imminent ruling on marriage equality:
Because when these things were put into effect, the average age of death was 47. It was a very different time. We have not adjusted with the times. So again, that’s a discussion that needs to be had.So is Dr. C. saying that after the Constitution was adopted, the President wasn't allowed to nominate, say, a 50-year old person to the Supreme Court -- because that person would have already been dead?
(Average life expectancy of someone at birth* in 1789 vs. life expectancy of the average 35-year old adult** in 1789 -- how does that work?)
* Whose ability to survive childhood diseases was unknown at that point** Who by definition had already survived most of the things that caused early death back then
tl;dr -- The "average lifespan was 47 years" argument is utter nonsense because the President has never been allowed to nominate newborns to the Judiciary.
My aunt was a career nurse in a hospital. She talked about how arrogant some surgeons could be, that they were the masculine/aggressive doctors and could consider themselves to be godlike. I'm guessing Ben Carson was one of those surgeons.
I took the five minutes required and calculated the average and median ages of the first 50 justices of the Supreme Court, from James Wilson (1742–1798) to Melville Fuller (1833–1910).
Paging Chief Justice John Marshall! Judicial review established in Marbury v. Madison in 18 fucking 03! Granted I was a history major... but WHISKY TANGO FOXTROT!
A REAL pedant notes: while Emerson's main instrument was a B-3, the knife trick was usually performed on an older L-100.
"We have not adjusted with the times."
No. F*cking. Kidding.
Says the conservative who follows, and wants everyone else to follow, an ancient book written at a time when the greatest technology was the wheel.
Old Uncle Ben....wasn't he the dude who has the rice......
Uncle Ben's fucking rice...yeah....
You're welcome.

See Wikipedia "Savant syndrome".
Where is it written you have to be smart to be a neurosurgeon? Because clearly you don't.

If not her, maybe this one: Adipose, radio career winding down, could use some grift money to finance the oxy and Caribbean boytoy vacations....
