I spent the weekend reading a book about the Salem Witch Trials, so I can't help but wonder if the busybody just so happened to be the parent of a child who may have missed out on the scholarship because of the accused girl. Just spitballing.

And this is why atheists keep talking about a God and religions that they don't believe in.

Because there are those who do believe that and they are willing to act upon those beliefs to the point where they impose such things upon the rest of their society whether they like it or not.

And the imposition can take the form of the legislative kind, at all levels as we see here.

I was performing some music at a Methodist church last weekend and asked our guitarist if they ever moved to the music. He said, "well, they aren't allowed to make love standing up, because somebody might see them and mistake it for dancing."

And yet again another example of Christianity sucking the fun and enjoyment out of, well, everything.

God built a huge "Fuck ME" button into us and the Xians keep screeching, "Don't touch that!" Don't eat too much, don't want things, don't take pride in good deeds. The only positive value is "Love each other" and they kind of suck at that.

How could a "relationship" with a cosmic bore like Jesus Christ be the most desirable thing in the universe?

I am not a Christian, so I can hate my enemies, like that schmuck.

Not only should we alert Kevin Bacon, but she should sell the movie rights.

This one has a bit of the feel of "In and Out," where all the townspeople started standing up and declaring their gayness in support of the teacher played by Kevin Kline.

That was a pretty good movie, with some great performances by Joan Cusack and even the old "Magnum" dude, who kissed Kline in one scene. I think they lived happily everafter together afterwards, or something.

Exactly. Waving your religion in my face is exactly the same as waving your junk in my face. I didn't ask about it, I didn't care about what you did with it in your private time, and I damn sure give a flying fuck about what you think that other people should do with their's in their private time.

“good guys fighting against bad guys who were for some unspecified reason out to destroy something good/largely innocuous,”

This is pretty much how conservatives view the world around them - with themselves cast as the good guys, natch. They just assume the rest of the world is full of BAD PEOPLE who want to do BAD THINGS because.. um.. because BAD!!! No further nuance required, expected, or even understood.

They actually assume other people want to do “bad” things because they want t do those things. Look at all those yahoos in PAB’s first cabinet. They immediately started grifting. They barely tried to hide it! They just assumed every other secretary of whatever did the same thing. I think some of them were truly shocked they got called out.

It's like Penn Jillette's response to people who ask what's to stop atheists from murder and theft: his reply is that he DOES do all the murder and theft he wants to, which is none. It's like they can't conceive of people being able to regulate their own behavior without being beaten with a sufficiently large stick.

Religion is under the mistaken belief that it owns morality.
