Clown? Evil shit is what he is.

Governor Rick Scott of Michigan gave Detroit the Flint treatment, appointing a manager with the authority to overrule any decision made by the officials elected to run the city. To cut costs, he closed the main library of the Detroit Library System. What did this manager do with all the materials at the library? Sent it to a landfill.

Once again, I am forced to issue my call for Evil Republican Trading Cards©. Granted, the expansion packs will bankrupt the average leftist by their sheer numbers, but it'll be a start.

Yay evil! You’re winning! What a glorious time to be an asshole!

People who do this should be sent to a landfill, that’s my thought on it. There’s a special place in hell in the “hot as” section where sentient books throw book burners and library destroyers on a BIG FIRE to make the “hot as” for hell.

I love NYC's libraries. I don't like the cops generally, but I understand the need for them. Eric Adams is a liar and a fraud. He's spending taxpayer money to lock the press out of getting to crime scenes by encrypting police radio transmissions. I loathe and detest him, and hope the feds have the goods to prosecute. I want him out of office forever.

Maybe he’ll go down on the Turkey thing. Would be suitably festive for this time of year.

Normally I do not kink shame, but "going down" on a Turkey is truly beyond the pale IMO....

So if you assumed that 60k people all required individual housing (which they don't if 2/3 are families), that would be $16k/person. Since September?

Maybe we need to figure out where that 4k/person/ month (8k/ housing unit???) is actually going?

Someone is getting rich here, and I bet they happen to be personal friends with the mayor.

Expand full comment

If only it were as little as $4k/month... it's more like $400/day. There are parasites all over this boondoggle, and they aren't the immigrants.

Adams could slash costs in half by giving $70,000 cash to every immigrant, and wishing them well.

Surely socialist Trump, an avid reader and lover of all things literary, will step up and divert millions to NYC libraries to save the day when Democrats fail to defend Biden and jeopardize his second term.

Cardi B should probably just go fuck her ignorant self.

Crossing my fingers that the Feds have the goods on Adams... it'd be the height of irony for the mayor blaming migrants for his problems to be convicted of being a foreign agent.

Just wait until all those unwanted migrants are Floridians displaced by the rising sea level caused by climate change.

No that that will do the city of New York any favors.

You mean the same ones who previously migrated to Florida *from* NYC?

Hey, wait a minute!

Frankly I'm surprised he's cutting the police force, but it's probably just a token amount.

Expand full comment

NYPD website boasts a police force of 36000 so reducing to below 30000 would be a >16% cut, which sounds big enough it would need to be done with some consideration.

Since public libraries are also now unofficial emergency extreme weather shelters for the homeless and those who live without heat or AC, closing them on Sundays is likely to kill some people.

It will also lead to worse mental health outcomes and more violent police encounters. Libraries do so much more than just books. They’re refuges from violence, places people go to get human contact, they help people access services, provide ESL classes, the list goes on.

Cutting library budgets because of the costs associated with immigrants also ignores that libraries are a vital resource FOR those immigrants -- providing access to wifi and printers, countless programs, quiet spaces and computers for remote meeting access, quiet spaces for study that kids might not get at home, you name it, all on top library use being the greatest predictor of lifetime economic success -- but sure, cut the libraries. You're not helping the people you say you are, Eric.

Maybe it's not ignoring what libraries do for immigrants, the poor, and the intellectually hungry. Maybe the cruelty is the point.

And, to harp on the constant whine from the right, libraries provide free English As A Second Language classes so those damned immigrants can learn to talk right.

It doesn't IGNORE it. He's doing it ON PURPOSE.

He is hosting a Twitter space right now if anyone is interested in giving him a piece of their mind about giving all the library money to the NYPD cops for their encoded fascistic messages https://twitter.com/DyjuanTatro/status/1726745708424785933

Totally. This is such a service loss and it makes it so much easier to justify increasing policing budgets when suddenly Sundays become days of high contact between police and vulnerable populations. “Look at this increase in violence due to vulnerable people having nowhere to go on Sundays. We need moar cops!!!1!1!”
