Honey, do these feathers make me look fat?

Who who who. When I lived in ATL I had a lot of trees and owls. I would hear them every day. Mini moments of peace.

We used to be lulled to sleep by barred owls in the south field, it was a lovely sound to drift off to...

Burrowing babby owls want mommy's attention please!

Good morning, Wonketariat! I'm going out to see "Marty Supreme" today!

Thank you. I've read good things about Mr. Chalamet's performance. I'm putting off the Avatar movie until Wednesday and will cut down on my water intake to make it through a 3 hour+ film. Cameron needs an editor.

There’s a new Avatar movie?

Pass.

Paul Krugman's musical coda this morning was "We Won't Get Fooled Again," by, of course, the Who -- er... the Whoooooo. Great minds!

Carl Hiassen wrote a novel for young adults called "Hoot" about some kids trying to save a burrowing owl habitat in Florida from being destroyed to build a pancake house. It was made into a movie in 2006. The book and film are worth a look.

WHY THE HELL DO YOU THINK THEY CALL IT A BURROW OWL???

Shocktreatment's avatar

I asked one, once. "Mind yer own business!" he told me. I'm guessing it's something embarrassing

Shocktreatment's avatar

I am fortunate enough to be neighbors with an owl. Lives within hooting distance anyway. He is absolute hell on the small mammals back towards the alley. As rats are small mammals, the block is grateful and supportive of the bird and his efforts.

It's amazing that those soft, downy vulnerable creatures will mature into such formidable hunters

judy thompson's avatar

may we borrow one? Rats are only small animals until you see one scurrying across your kitchen floor...eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

While still working I would hear HOOTS in the morning. This was in the big city! Now that I'm in a deep forest I seldom hear them at all! LIFE is STILL GOOD!

Skunk Formerly Known As Stoner's avatar

Read an article in the BBC that neighbors in Devon had been owl-calling to each other for years, each thinking the other was the actual owl.

Shocktreatment's avatar

Owl scat and those pellets they cough up rule out any hooting neighbors, but that's pretty funny.

Rosy red ASS's avatar

We hear owls in the trees behind our house a lot. Some condos nearby put up owl boxes. They are all occupied.

Shocktreatment's avatar

That single owl really changed things for the better around here. Occasionally we have another close, but not often.

Just read this again, long after both the Jan. 6 riot and the post itself was made, and it chills me even more. At the time, what we saw was limited to what the camera focused on. Further down the line we began to see other scenes taken from other cameras, and it only got worse. People died, and more could have. I ached for Mike Pence, still do. The trauma for him must have been stunning.

That we could not only allow this to happen, but that we (you not me, sweetheart) could actually vote this loony BACK into office, some people actually believed him and his troops...

whatever happened to Impeachment? The President messes up, he's out. Disgraced, embarrassed, defrocked, as it were. How did we get to the point where the President, the big, the bad, the ugly, now OWNS congress? He shoots who he wants, destroys anything he wants like a three year old the day after his third birthday...and no one even blinks...

But yes, burrowing owls exist and I want a six pack of them to go. They'll keep the six kittens (my husband will be so surprised) I haven't found yet company.

it does seem that President/Dictator Trump is still coherent enough to actually invade another country and steal away their leader (and wife, if Im not mistaken). I do not understand this. Are we so afraid/bored/stupid/to stop this dude in his tracks? It does seem we are placing blame the way kids do: "pointing fiercely) "he did it he did it I seen him do it, yep" and carefully backing away from all of it. 'not my fault, nope nope..."

re: The J6 felons re-feloning. They don't understand only their Messiah is allowed to carry out any stupid impulse that his brain vomits up.

Nope. GW Bush pulled that off before he was elected gov of Texas (based on his "successful businessman" persona).

Oh, hey!! Speaking of assholes in legal peril, the former bank robber-turned jailhouse lawyer-turned Georgetown Law professor who mentored Tiffany and advised the Trump White House on “criminal justice reform” should be sentenced for assault, contempt, and obstruction of justice after he was convicted of beating his wife any day now: https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/georgetown-law-professor-who-served-prison-time-convicted-of-assaulting-wife/3960185/

Did Chump seize Venezuela's oilfields to fuck with China? Maybe China should return the favor by stationing a couple of carriers off the coast of Mar-a-Lago and Bedminster.

“[Marco Rubio] just had a conversation with [Rodríguez], and she’s essentially willing to do what we think is necessary to make Venezuela great again,”

This has always been Trumps MO when it comes to making a deal. It’s a bullying tactic where he tries to get the upper hand by claiming the other party already made the deal forcing them to either call him a liar and be the bad guy or acquiesce. I guess she chose the former. Good for her.

How I see it, if Tim Walz is this spineless then he’s not the hero we need anyway. Bye Felicia.

judy thompson's avatar

this is not being spineless, he's making a concerted effort to put himself where he is most needed. And campaigning can be exhausting.

Shorter Ten's avatar

Did you read the full press release? I understand his thinking and, given the current administration, that he wants to focus on governing rather than campaigning, is not spineless.

judy thompson's avatar

agreed. campaigning is endless, exhausting, and often a failure. I'd rather see this lovely fella govern
