Unholy! Unholy to be making/selling/buying EVs when Mr. Trump vows (VOWS!) to pay off his Oil Exec Grift and Hasten the Rapture by banning all EVs forever and ever and ever, Amen!
Picked mine up last week. From VW womp womp. Not the flashiest one but exactly the one I needed. They'll probably recover some as they bring out their sedan later this year. And hey, mine was made in the USA at a (now) union factory, which was honestly the thing that finally tipped me away from Hyundai/Kia.
I'm still waiting for someone to build me a mid-sized standard cab pickup. So far, Alpha Motor seems to be the only ones interested in that market slice, but it's still mostly vapor.
I have been happily driving a Chevy Volt for 12 years. I love that it's battery powered but has a small gas engine to charge the battery if needed. I always planned for my next car to be a Tesla but, fuck that Eloon guy. I would be too embarrassed to own one now.
Electric cars are awesome -- quick, cheap, and quiet (you have to be mindful of people around you because they don't hear you coming).
I was walking down the street today and a couple of belching cars went by. The sound and the smell are terrible. I am so looking forward to a world of EVs. Everyone's quality of life will improve.
GM, however, taking full advantage of Joe's market interference, announced yesterday that they'll take decades to change over instead of the years they promised us before the new tariff. Thanks a lot, Joe.
It's only a slump because Tesla's are trash. Elmo is pretty dumb for a genius. I he was smart he would give up on trash cars and build a nationwide system of charging stations. Too bad he is an immature fucktard.
I drive a Chevy Bolt. My son bought a Tesla before Elon announced he was a nazi shithead. He and his wife bought a Rivien truck this year and have a Rivien car on order. When they get the car they're gonna get rid of the Tesla stench. I love my EV! It's perfect for this old lady.
We have a Chevy Bolt too, and love it. Short commutes, long commutes, long trips, it does it all. The main lack is in the infrastructure. Northern Virginia? Too few chargers, and people fighting over them. West Virginia? No fast chargers at all. Boo! But at home, we use the charger installed in our garage.
Tesla's growth is being impeded by consumer concerns about whether the company can withstand the constant shit storms associated with Eloon Must and the downward spiral of Xhitter. The companies that have a track record for staying power (GM, Ford, Toyota) are moving ahead in sales.
Yeah, here in Denver I see a TON of EVs now. The number of Teslas hasn't increased, but everything else seems to be selling just fine. There is some dude with a Cybertruck somewhere around here, but that thing mostly just provides a lot of photos for amused/horrified onlookers. Cybertrucks are FUGLY.
Fugly, rusty, and hilariously bad as vehicles. There’s a Cybertruck owned by someone who has a similar morning commute to mine, and I always see the driver sticking their head faaaaaar outside the window to make a certain right turn because the visibility in those ugly pieces of shit is so lousy that’s the only way the driver can make a safe merge.
This is why twelve year old shitposters trapped in the bodies of middle aged, serially divorced men shouldn’t design cars. Leave it to the actual grown up engineers, Elon.
On a bus down in New Jersey on the way to NYC on Sunday I finally saw one of them. The thing that I noticed is that only Oopma-Loompas could fit in those, and this one in particulsr had no licence plates on it
I knew that when my video suggestions started filling up with hyperventilating "the death of the EV" videos that it was garbage.
once you've seen one "fossil fuels for a brighter future" video, or read one article, you know the talking points already.
and to be perfectly clear, EVs come with their own set of challenges, especially in terms of battery manufacturing and recycling, which will be fun going forward.
making batteries and electronic components involves a lot of mining, and materials such as lithium, germanium, gallium, arsenic, etc. will be getting harder and harder to come by unless we start taking recycling seriously. then there's all the mining waste and mining infrastructure whose environmental impact we also need to get serious about.
We're also ignoring that the materials in the batteries can be reclaimed and recycled almost an infinite number of times. The gas and oil are finite and the only way to find more is to drill up someplace that hasn't been drilled or utilize even worse processes like shale extraction.
I know this is a dead thread but I wanted to share this ridiculous photo of a reflective truck.
How is this not a road hazard?
It is insane.

Buyers are "turning their backs on those with inferior battery range, slower charging and high prices"?
I wonder what company that would affect. Maybe one with an ugly $100,000 pickup truck?
You mean the polished dumpster?
Ta, Dok. I miss our Outback. Mostly, I miss the CD changer and the moon roof.

Ok, that definitely is tipping me toward VW. I just wish they made a sedan EV like the Tesla 3.
Samesy. No timeline for NA market, but the ID.7 looks really nice: https://www.theautopian.com/2025-volkswagen-id-7-pictures-specs/

I daydream of the day when garbage trucks and school buses are EVs.
It will be so amazing to not hear them rumble by every morning well before I actually need to be awake.
I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee plug in hybrid and it was made in Michigan by the UAW. It is fabulous.
I can’t wait until my current car finally bites the dust and I can replace it with an EV. I want one so badly.
GM, however, taking full advantage of Joe's market interference, announced yesterday that they'll take decades to change over instead of the years they promised us before the new tariff. Thanks a lot, Joe.
Yes, but GM's coal fired SUVs will continued to be built in the meantime.
I'm holding out for the advanced-technology diesel-coal hybrid.

I'm just gonna assume that Manchin stuck his coal-filled fat ass in the way.

Looks to me like the love child of a DeLorean and a USPS truck.
They look like angry kitchen appliances.

It is basically the car designed by Homor Simpson.

oil extraction activity is equal or worse than battery mining. It creates wastelands where ever it goes.
We're also ignoring that the materials in the batteries can be reclaimed and recycled almost an infinite number of times. The gas and oil are finite and the only way to find more is to drill up someplace that hasn't been drilled or utilize even worse processes like shale extraction.
They both do. But with batteries, most of the devastation is in 3rd world countries. Here in NM, EV's are still powered by coal.
oh, without a doubt. what I was trying to say that extraction industry is dirty and we need to do better in terms of cleanup all across the globe.
