Lol 67 years old, I get six dollars a week from snap. Some conservative thinks I'm stealing their future.

Before I commit to a position on these very contentious issues, I'd like to know what Speaker Jeffries has to say.

Ta, Robyn. GT? GFY, with a rusty garden weasel of VOTES. I believe all of my clients get SNAP. Those who have signed up for the food and nutrition program in our network get a $60 ALDI gift card every week, but they can't buy junk food with it. When I accompanied one of the shopping trips years ago, one of my clients put candy and cookies in his cart. I told him he could not pay for them with his card; if he wanted them he had to pay with EBT (SNAP) or cash. The nutritionist advises them on their particular needs for their particular state of health. I wish this was available to HIV positive people everywhere, but it's wonderful that we can give it to them in the south Bronx.

Edited to add: Cotton isn't edible. Cottonseed oil is, IMHO, unfit for human consumption.

I remember this coming as a surprise to Milo Minderbinder (in Catch 22), who was expecting people to eat chocolate covered cotton, because he'd made a deal for both and figured they would be marketable together.

It doesn't seem like that long ago that we were making fun of people who thought like that rather than electing them to Congress.

Ya know what? I'm 77 and still have (hopefully) many shits to give. SNAP should be in the Constitution for dogs sake. We are talking about feeding Americans.

SNAP is all I get per month to feed my family and since Mr. Mapes is Australian, we only get money for myself and Mapes Jr. My SSDI case was denied my final appeal meaning I have to start an entirely new SSI only case my banked benefits only covered through Dec 2022. I have a mighty fear that in Texas, all Social Safety Net programs have been ordered to stop approvals because come January of next year, they expect all of them to disappear forever.

My guess is we'll get something like a CR.

As per usual, cruelty, punishment, and hatred of the poor is the standard operating procedure.

Always fun when there's a terrible bill out in public for us to all torch together. Good for those who reported on this!

i think most people in the country are much closer to waking up one day and needing food assistance than they are waking up one day suddenly the CEO of a massive agribusiness wishing they could sell cotton and peanuts for a bit more. 🤷‍♂️

the SNAP benefits amount to an indirect subsidy to the farmers anyway; this is just gratuitous, but after all the cruelty is the point.

The two-party system is currently very broken. I propose that until the GOP stops behaving like greedy monsters, they are put on a time out, unable to pass legislation, etc.

I know it is a total pipe dream & that it leaves room for some serious "whatabouttisms" but maybe if we just show them what can get done without their bullshit, they would change their tune.

A $1.50 less a week won't make a difference? Jesus. I mean, these people have never had to take something off the belt at the cash register, because they were a dollar short? Never had to decide between frozen peas for their ramen or milk for breakfast? I mean, stupid question. Of course they haven't. The fucking ignorance and arrogance.

I was once 3 cents short and the store made me remove an item. Granted that was a long time ago so maybe 15 cents in today's money?

My niece in the military qualified for these benefits. Think about that. Protecting our country you can die, but your kids get to starve until you do.
