This crime thing is such bullshit.

The murder rate in Seattle is 7.1 per 100,000.

The murder rate in the US is 7.8 per 100,000.

The murder rate in Savannah is now down to 16.61 per 100,000.

The murder rate in Newark is18.08 per 100,000.

The murder rate in St. Louis is 64.54, the winner!

Also, the graph of the national violent crime rate from 1990-2022 looks like a water slide: https://www.statista.com/statistics/191219/reported-violent-crime-rate-in-the-usa-since-1990/

I imagine they mean mostly property crimes like bike stealing and car break-ins.

Tina Mouse's avatar

Oh.

I would rather lose my bike than get murdered. Hands down. No contest.

plushie dragon's avatar

Same!! I even have a very fancy bike. That I can't ride.

Semi Bird? What is the other half of him?

Is this the Turducken I've heard about?

What the fuck kind of name is "Semi"? Does he have siblings named "Penske" and "Tractor-Trailer?"

I've met both Inslee and Ferguson at GOTV efforts. Both are easily likable, intelligent, witty, and invested in keeping progress moving in Washington. We have an embarrassment of riches in this state when it comes to talented, skilled elected officials. The right-wing gets their noses bent out of shape and do find ways to monkey-wrench progress, but we find ways around or through them and just keep on moving forward, sometimes one step at a time. Not taking anything for granted here. I plan to write op-eds and LTEs in favor of Dem candidates and opposed to the nickle package of anti-progress ballot initiatives filed by the right-wing doomsayer and conman Tim Eyman and his crew of deplorables!

I've known Jay Inslee for over 42 years and really can't overstate how intelligent he is or how big his heart. And Bob Ferguson, whom I've known for a shorter period of time, is much the same. Dave Reichert is still running on having "captured" the Green River killer, who was doing his murders about the time I first met Jay, so maybe memory runneth not that deep about it.

Please Dawg, help the Democrats NOT be complacent about ANY race. The only thing better than a loss for the GOP would be a CRUSHING, EMBARRASSING, HUMILIATING SHELLACKING.

Amen and AMEN ! Let's GEAUX DEMS !

[Sorry. Been up ll fucking night and am more than a lil shakwy/shook]

I don't know. I've lived in Washington state my whole life and the Republicans here may be crazy enough to flip the Bird at Reichert. There's no telling.

That said, Ferguson will crush the leftovers.

I’m starting to think that Washington is to Republicans what Texas is to Democrats.

Am I the only one who has a little crush on Bob Ferguson? Just a fantasy, he's married and probably an awesome husband, but a woman can dream right? There must be another sexy middle aged intelligent guy with a nerdy vibe and a clean jaw line, no, please?

Trux Mint In Box's avatar

Reichert thinks he has an opening this year thanks to Washington’s struggles with crime and homelessness, specifically in Seattle.

Yes, I’m sure young people in Seattle would love to open up the possibility of losing all their reproductive rights and library books because they have to walk by a few tents on the way to work.

Don't be so sure. Portland replaced an excellent progressive council member with one of the WORST, most unqualified, anti-poor candidates ever- because of "the homeless" and "crime" panic. Subjects continuously pushed by the Business Alliance-supported local papers and our Sinclair and Fox outlets. The young are notoriously poor on voting or voting sensibly (refraining from voting for one's perfect candidate unless one lives somewhere with ranked choice voting).

The amount of people in this state who feel like one unhoused person in Seattle is a threat to their very existence in (checks notes) Skykomish is wild. "I can't even go into the city, it's not safe" cries man with $80k pickup in a Seahawks wrap and Seahawks season tickets.

I can hear the whining down here in Tracktown without my hearing aids on.

Proud to live in WA. Reichert is a dick.

Lascauxcaveman's avatar

Reichert IS a dick. He's supposedly a moderate, but I opened a fundraiser letter he sent recently to my (3 years dead) Republican mother. It's all the usual paranoid ranting about about how the evil Dems are coming for YOU, and we need to FIGHT NOW, to avoid the crush of evil soshulisms, CRT and welfare moms in Cadillacs.

Never been prouder in my life to be an atheist bed wetting woke-ass Pelosi Dem.

Welfare moms in Caddies is an oldie but a goody.

Bob Ferguson was the tip of the legal spear shoved into the chest of any of PAB's cockamamie programs that came close to touching Washington state. Ferguson will be a great successor to Inslee.

Seattle has had a homelessness problem since 1899, it's the "end of the line" for midwestern states putting vagrants on Greyhound buses with a one way ticket.

What it has now is a "landlords-realizing-Tech-bros-will-pay-2K-a-month-for-a-coffin-apartment" problem.
