In the UK the vast majority of people don't have to file a tax return at all, because income tax is deducted at source by your employer.

The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America instituted a program where writers could enter their name in an annual drawing for an audit of the writer's account at his publisher, paid for by SFWA, something beyond the resources of your average novelist.

It's only one a year from a random drawing, but it apparently does keep the publishers honest.

The true occupation of the very rich is finding new ways of taking your money by lower wages, no health care, no pensions, longer work hours, etc. I'll take their word when they say they'll work harder if they pay lower taxes. Time to de-incentivize them.
