A teacher does not have an administrative role. Kagan was an actual dean, but it was not recent. Jackson, though, was up until now part of the government of the university that actually oversees academics. It is just too much of an assocation.

I've got a suggestion. Confirm her. See what she does about recusing herself or not, and how she justifies what she does. Then praise her or criticize her for what she does and how she explains it.
That is not how recusal works. The issue is a relationship to a party, not a future penumbral effect.
She was operationally involved in how Harvard is run during the period covered by a case on how Harvard is run. A lower court judge would have to recuse.

While the party of the case is Harvard, that has nothing to do with the legal issue. There is no conflict of interest.

While the party is Harvard, the legal issue is not particular to Harvard. All higher learning institutes will be effected.
