"You might wonder how Republicans can possibly maintain their already slim House majority when they are so incompetent they can’t even elect a speaker. Well, that’s easy. They just plan to cheat."
"The same thing we do EVERY night, I mean election, Pinky!"
Couldn't someone take this to a circuit court? Why does the NC supreme court get the final say? Or is it too late to redraw the districts before the 2024 election?
Yup. We fucked here. Look hard to other states to save democracy cuz we are now too busy reviving the Confederacy and rounding up all the uteruses. Gonna be great...
Asheville, one of the most hippie/punk/lefty communities in the nation, will have a Republican rep (or two) . . . that probably tells you all you need to know . . . somebody once said of Islamic fundamentalists running for office: they view democracy like toilet paper - use it once and throw it away . . .
The only possible silver lining here would be a Democratic backlash in statewide elections to win both Senate seats and vote for a Democratic president. It’s not fair to the Democrats that live in NC but if you can’t get out the vote to win the statewide elections it’s never going to change.
And of course, the Freedom to Vote Act, which has anti-gerrymandering provisions, is languishing in committee. 2024 is so much more than Biden vs. PAB, it's fascism vs. democracy. I need to get the message through to people but it is a steep hill to climb when addressing this to the people I am in contact with.

I don't want Dok to ban me again, so I'll just say that Republicans ruin everything.

Also these assholes aren't chasing me out of this state. I like it here.
Seconded. As much as gerrymandering really chaps my ass, and how do we ever return from it?
I wish I'd said meaner things to Rep. Cotham when we got booted out of the House chamber.
Family in Wilmington and New Bern NC were all like: Move (from NYC!) down here—it's wonderful! "Darling I love you, but give me Park Avenue..."

example number eleventy how Republicans don't care for representation or democracy.

That’s it. I’ve officially lost it
And the QOP would have a shit hemorrhage if the Dems pulled the same shit in Blue states.
DO ITttttTTTt!!!
New York state has entered the chat.
As has Illinois.

They also carved out a nice district for gender traitor Tricia Cotham.
What if a predominantly white ethnic plutocracy sabotaged democracy to maintain an illegitimate hold on political power?
Let's watch...
What if? It's been happening for decades.
We’re soaking in it
That's a deep cut.
Oh... oh no...
Really nothing new here - the southern states have been gerrymandering themselves into impregnable GOP strongholds since the early 70s
