Baffling and terrifying. If any historians survive this era to put pen to paper, or voice to dictaphone, they will agree that our young democracy is a wobbly work in progress, and that’s when the government is fully funded, staffed and is mostly scandal free and doing something resembling governance. But when an easily manipulated populist with poor judgment and no empathy agrees to let far-right extremists experiment with gutting the government and Constitution, the consequences were tragic.
It’s only been 10 days, and I’m expecting the Trump apologists to start scrambling soon. “Ok, it didn’t go as planned. He let the Project 2025 people and the billionaires he made promises to get him in over his head. He made clumsy, sweeping decisions to eliminate entire departments, fire experienced people and defund vital programs. He caused widespread chaos simply to see what would happen.
A lot of the constraints that were put in place in the 60s and 70s (when we had mostly-sane government) have been removed. In spite of Nixon, for a while the guardrails were getting better -- civil rights, integration, help for those in poverty, help for kids & schools, even abortion rights.
But Reagan removing the Fairness Doctrine in 1987 was a huge blow. It enabled the creation of Fox news & others, so it's been drip-drip-drip since then, jettisoning a safeguard here, another there, so now Trump can walk into office with a much better chance of getting the oligarchy he wants, for as long as he wants. And because of Republiscum dirty tricks, we have a court packed with right-wing nutjobs.
If the Fairness Doctrine were still in place, stuff like dissing Kamala for an annoying laugh would not happen so easily or matter as much. It's not all Trump's fault -- the whole setup was just waiting for someone like him to show up. We really need to peel off a few of the saner ones (like the ones who deserted Hegseth until couch boy broke the tie) to stick with us, and to be backed up by the courts where possible, to block all the illegal shit Trump is doing. But even that's not going to help if people like Schiff are going to continue voting with the GQP on questionable nominations.
Robert F. Kennedy is a disgrace to his father’s legacy. His dishonors the name Kennedy, everytime he opens his mouth. I have a feeling if Jr ever gets to heaven, he will have a lot of explaining to do to those Kennedy’s that have gone before him. This assumes those family in heaven haven’t disowned him.
Democrats - you don’t have to cooperate, collaborate or enable the Trump Nazi MAGA regime. Don’t support their economy. The rich power brokers & corporations worship money. Don’t buy a new car. Don’t fly. Don’t buy any major appliances. Don’t spend any discretionary money only essentials.
Two more -- H5N1 is the one that's spreading throughout the US right now, but another bird flu virus -- H5N9, I think -- has just been found in a US bird. If RFK jr is confirmed, we are so fucked.
Thought: would we have expected anything else from someone who ran for president out of narcissistic injury from a previous president who was humilated by medical authorities by his mishandling of a major health crisis?
He only ran for the US Senate (he admitted this to a reporter for a story that was published) because it was the fastest way to get rich. He then drafted one piece of legislation during his first term, only to turn around and vote against it. Then he got bored and was going to not run again. So he put out feelers in the private sector....only to have no one want to bring him on...at all in any capacity. Republicans in Florida begged him to run again because he had the incumbency edge there. So he changed his mind and decided to run again. He's a fickle asshole who only wants to be rich. Not make a difference in the world, just be rich.
NO, you fucking morons, I will NOT take your silly-ass quiz. Food happens to be something where RFKJ has occasionally said things that make sense. SO FUCKING WHAT?? Drawing attention to that and comparing him to Michelle Obama is the very DEFINITION of sanewashing.
RFK Jr will be confirmed in a new fast-track process side-stepping Congress with a rule called the “worm hole.”

This is awesome report that gives me hope and not so alone.

Bird flu has been found in cattle. We have another pandemic for Trump to fuck up, aided by RFK Jr.

... and who also ran a second time to save himself from the consequences of the 37 felony convictions and a bunch of pending prosecutions...
Trump's gonna be pissed when he learns his cabinet met with Biden people at all.
"Kennedy refuses to accept that HIV causes AIDS"
Flames on the sides of my face dot gif FUCK
To be fair, he never liked the PEPFAR album because he believed the song fixing a hole was about brain worms.
Removable head?
Can individual states join the World Health Organization? Asking for a coastal blue state.
New York's collective hand just went up, also too.
36 million
36 MILLION
That's how many people have died world-wide of AIDS.
If any Democrat supports RFK Jr.'s nomination I may well BURN my membership card.
"...such as when Rubio asked about how the United States tracks the threat of emerging flu viruses abroad."
Rubio has been a Senator for HOW long, and through an entire pandemic that killed over one million Americans, and he's only NOW asking this?

Yeesh. I really need to cancel my subscription.
Dooooo eeeettttt. I did after having a sub for 30 plus years. I used to get a PAPER! It's hard and I am weaning off between now and expiration date
I canceled mine. It took three tries because they kept up with the alternative offers to stay but I got it done.
Whoa... Even if RatFKJr is appointed he'd STILL be allowed into meetings?
"PEPFAR is credited with saving an estimated 25 million lives since 2003"
Does that make up for all the people in the Mid-East Bush was instrumental in killing?
