Errant nonsense! Large doses of cod-liver oil were what kept Kier strong in his efforts to tame the Four Tempers. That, and the ether, of course.

Seeing the name budesonide reminded me of a pharma ad I saw recently for an asthma inhaler called AirSupra. The ad warned against using AirSupra as a "maintenance inhaler", but only as a "rescue inhaler", apparently because of the side effects of budesonide ( albuterol alone seems to be the preferred "rescue inhaler" by most doctors ).

Okay, so measles isn't something that one needs a "maintenance inhaler" for, but the idea that budesonide can have awful side effects makes me think that RFH, Jr. is making up that shit that doctors have been prescribing it in any major way. As it is, the prescribing of corticosteroids for asthma seems to be something to be avoided

[ I have COPD, not asthma, and have an albuterol inhaler to use as a "rescue inhaler" - altho' I have "experimented" with it, I have never "needed" it ]

Oh yeah - RFK, Jr. invoking "frontline doctors" makes me think of those quacks that had all the bad advice about COVID-19 treatments.... Oh never mind - I now see that Robyn had the same thought as I did about "frontline doctors"

BTW, too much Vitamin A will make you very very sick. Nausea, vomiting, dizziness. My very crunchy mom had read that Vitamin A would alleviate anxiety. Well, mom was a paranoid functional schizophrenic (untreated), and had a lot of Strong Feelings after finding a dirty book under my brother's bed, and basically OD'ed on Vitamin A. She got better but it was a rough couple of days.

I have this feeling she would be QAnon and a huge RFK Jr fan were she alive today.

This really shows how out of touch I am with the whackadoo community because I'm kinda terrified of Vitamin A supplements after I read the warnings on a box of retinol.

Vitamin A is fat soluble and not water soluble (like Vitamin C), which means it tends to collect in the body and isn't easily flushed out. Moreover, it collects in body organs like the brain and liver. My mom (who trusted alternative medicine quacks way more than any doctor) had read that Vitamin A would alleviate anxiety, so when she was super upset one time she basically overdosed. Some is good, more is better, right? Sigh. She was sick for several days. She also had serious osteoporosis, which is a possible effect of taking high doses of Vitamin A over time.

Do Not F**k With Vitamin A. Just take a supplement and eat some leafy greens, you'll be fine. You do NOT need f**king cod liver oil.

I'm so sorry that happened to your mom :( I have no plans to take Vitamin A supplements, and I highly doubt I will be including it in my skincare, which is what I was referencing with the retinol.

RFKJ is a serial killer. He does not care how many kids he kills. Like Trump he is a malignant narcissist with a black hole inside where conscience, empathy, or a soul should be. That's why he was chosen for this job: a high-profile serial killer with the added bonus of trashing the name of his family, surely a plus where Trump is concerned.

At this point, I am starting to think it’s some kind of religious thing I don’t understand.

//

You might be right. The Friendly Atheist had a post this week on a religious school in Texas (big surprise) which is *bragging* about how they have the lowest vaccination rates in the nation, at less than 15%.

TIL that Marcella Gruelle, inspiration for the Raggedy Ann stories, is now being used as an example for the anti-vaxxers, because she died from a vax shot in 1915 when "the same needle had been reused on countless students, and Marcella contracted diphtheria."

I’ve been in the pharmaceutical industry since 1988 in various non-clinical roles. While we conduct rigorous clinical studies on potential drug or vaccine candidates, we also look at what’s known to occur over time after the studies have concluded. We call this Real World Evidence (RWE). The MMR vaccine has been around since 1971. There’s more than enough RWE that the vaccine is effective given the fact that measles had disappeared, with a great safety profile. Kennedy is like one of those bogus ghost hunters, leading his band of credulous goofballs.

Well, but the old-timey photo says cod liver oil gets rid of "scrofulous humors." That seems important. Because if we didn't have the oil, we would need to ask one of the early English Kings (Edward the Confessor, for example) to cure this disease by the laying-on of royal hands.

Whoa. Jr is a former heroin addict who has experienced severe memory loss and brain fog which he attributes to a worm in his brain, mercury poisoning, suffers from spasmodic dysphonia, a neurological condition that affects his voice and, finally, he has facial skin tone that is the color of an old leather basketball left out in the snow all winter. If he had one ounce of knowing what he is talking about, you would think he would be the picture of perfect health.

Ta, Robyn. I had all the so-called childhood diseases between the ages of six and seven. I came SO close to dying of measles. I still remember the quilts hung over my windows so it wouldn't blind me. RFK Jr is a dangerous nut job who is going to get more people killed.
