I spent thirty-something years in and near Providence. I love the place. I'd say it's the New Jersey of New England. In a good way.

RI has been weird that way for decades. Democrats were mostly political machine creatures, and Republicans were quasi-liberals. Linc Chaffee, for one.

I really hate to say this, but the RI Democrats are mostly kinda douchey, too. Every singe one of them went to parochial school, Providence College, and Suffolk Law School. At night. And they wear pinkie rings.

The RI State Police won an award a few years back for their uniforms: they look like Dudley Do-right on Levitra. Flat-brimmed hats, bandalero leather strap, jodhpurs, boots....

Kinda like that Rick Perry porn shot, now that I think about it.
