I read the WSJ article, and it should have a subtitle - 'pearl clutching by the wealthy, why poor people should fucking care." Honestly, who gives a fuck if these people leave their legacy real estate behind and move to - where ever? In fact, if all the wealthy moved out, it might actually reduce rents and real estate prices a tad. I can assure everyone, that the predominant comments on WSJ are slanted a bit differently than those here at Wonkette (going for sarcasm).

So who is Heyman? I hate seeing some random name quoted and then, going back to find out who the hell he is, see not one clue in the entire article.

They say they will leave and some do but new rich people always come to take their place. And frankly I think if all the rich people did actually leave then the rents would come down.

Rich people always swear they’ll leave when compassion wins the ballot. Yet somehow, the Hamptons never run out of Range Rovers. They’ll threaten to move to Miami, but the humidity will bring them crawling back by fall.

Let them pack. Cities grow stronger when greed takes a sabbatical.

Jesus. Fuck these clowns. Wall Streeters pay NO NYC taxes. The City gives them an appalling variety of tax breaks, both personal & corporate (especially the real estate tax abatement programs which allow them to underpay for 30 years in return for the immense favor of owning/net leasing absurdly over-mortgaged commercial buildings whose tenants they're free to rent-rape without consequences). As if Wall Streeters would ever consider moving. These rich fucks all live in Westchester or Connecticut, have offices in Manhattan & summer in the Hamptons. And they've been doing that since at least the 1920s. That's their world & they ain't gonna change it. They need to be in each other's back pockets because their business is all based on insider info & covert deals. Notice how the big banks killed the Covid-era work from home programs as fast as they could. Face it. They're not leaving the City. Ever. This makes them fish in a barrel. We need someone in City Hall with the balls to make them pony up just a fraction more of their $. Sadly, most of the Democratic leadership in the City is in their back pockets (from Schumer on down). One can hope that Mamdani is different, but only time will tell if he has any political talent, or is just a glorified YouTube influencer like AOC. In any case, the status quo has gotta go.

I weep for the future.
