The oldest of my brothers is a politically-well-connected evangelical GOPer (it's a very sore point among us siblings), and a number of his pals (thankfully, Greg Kelly is not one of them) still get riled up to spitting point about how UNFAIR the Nixon impeachment was. They claim he did nothing wrong - they either do whataboutism with every Democratic president ever or they whine that "all Nixon did was get caught" - and they readily admit that the vitriol they unleashed at Clinton was "payback."

GOPers have been delusional for decades.

So, Deep State = system of laws. Got it.

I did film research for a documentary on Nixon, and the more I found out about him and watched him, the ickier I felt.

Back before Presidential candidates took pride in racking up more and more felony charges. Nixon was a choir boy by comparison.

I was trying to coax one of my Trumpy friends to not watch ONLY Fox News. She said, I don't watch Fox. I watch Newsmax, because it's more accurate.

I am genuinely, morbidly curious about how you can call people like that 'friends'?

I don't mind the question. People are multi-faceted. She and I go back way before Trump, which helps tremendously. We have bonded over pets, food, and many other things.

Does the pet bonding exclude shooting dogs?

I try hard not to condemn people for their affinity for Trump. I will admit to cutting ties with an acquaintance (college professor whose friendship waned after her retirement); but the last straw was her sending me a Christmas card with the words “I believe the election was stolen” and “Trump 2020” on the outside of the envelope. I continue to marvel how educated people can support someone who is so willfully, proudly, destructively ignorant.

NEVER ask Greg Kelly (who or whatever the fuck HE is) for help with anything. Embroider that on a throw pillow if necessary. Remember, the life you save may be your own,

Unlike Greg Kelly, I was there. I was 33 when Nixon skulked out of White House that glorious day. I haven't touched booze since that day, to my great benefit. Weed is so much better for the times we live in. But I digress. Greg Kelly is a lying pos. Nixon's pardon was infuriating. Fucking Ford foisted that same GOP shit about how the 'people' can't handle their leader's paying dues for their crimes. Look what that crap has cost us.

In the contest for Worst President, the Nixon pardon moves Ford ahead of Nixon and Bush II and barely a handsbreadth behind Reagan.

"Look what that crap has cost us." Yep. Couldn't agree more. The legal system STILL is reticent about charging the president. It's a direct result.

News flash: many of us feel exactly about weed as you do about booze, pal.

Not to mention that weed ain't anything like what it used to be.

Yeah, and there is no finish line, never was. Turns out "the long national nightmare" wasn't "over" (Ford); it was just getting started.

Ta, Gary. Nixxon: Still the Same Old Gas.

OT: Gary is my favorite because of his use of stills from the Simpsons.

Inquisitive minds want to know why Nixon was offered and accepted a pardon if he enjoyed absolute immunity from criminal prosecution. Don't expect answers from Justices Thomas, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh and Alito.

Ok, so by "deep state" you mean people who do their job to protect the United States from criminal activity. Got it.

"Hoover is a cross-dresser" is a juicy rumor, but there is absolutely no proof that it's true.

Weirdly enough, there is more evidence Hermann Goehring was a cross-dresser. Not that you would want to really see it, but it is available.

Still better than the current Republican platform.

"Computers may be twice as fast as they were in 1973, but your average voter is as drunk and stupid as ever. The only one who's changed is me. I've become bitter, and let's face it, crazy over the years. And once I'm swept into office, I'll sell our children's organs to zoos for meat. And I'll go into people's houses at night and wreck up the place! Muhuhahahaha!"

Back in the '70s the right wing crank element would have seen Nixon going to China as proof that Nixon had sold out to the Council on Foreign Relations etc. that were that era's supposed equivalent of the Deep State.

If there hadn't been a Vietnam War, there would have not been a President Nixon. He did exactly what Trump did, create a bigger mess from a smaller one and just claim he was the only solution to it.

Henry Cuellar, the Democratic Texas congressman, now faces a federal indictment for playing fast and loose about carrying water for Azerbaijan:

I personally won't miss him if he goes. For one thing, he's the only pro-gunpoint-birth Democrat left in Congress.
