Hortman’s assassination and the attempted assassination of Sen. Hoffman simply disappeared from the news cycle and received no real attention from any major national figure. Having Biden and Harris attend felt like someone had noticed and cared.
Biden's and Harris's attendance acknowledged that this sort of violence is a major stresser, in addition, to those who were represented by Rep. Hortman, and in fact most if not all Minnesotans were emotionally and in other ways negatively affected by the assassinations/murders and the attempts on the Hoffmans. Biden and Harris were invited, but of course it was right that they followed through and came to pay respects.
