Rightwing Rag Gonna Make Some Sh*t Up At You About How Hillary And Bernie Are Beefing
'OK, Bern, but I wish you wouldn't call me that'
In a campaign where there's already enough real news to go around, we have to say we're impressed by the ability of some media outlets to find controversy where there isn't any. Last week, the Washington Free Beacon leaked terrible horrible scandalous audio of Hilary Clinton saying back in February that a lot of millennials were supporting Bernie Sanders because the economy was tough for them. This was supposedly scandalous because she said some were living in their parents' basements and unable to find good jobs after graduating during the post-2008 recession. Sunday, Bernie Sanders went on CNN and ABC and said her comments were spot on. On ABC's This Week:
“During the campaign we had our differences, but what she was saying there was absolutely correct,” Sanders said during an interview Sunday morning in response to the newly leaked audio of Clinton talking about his supporters during a private fundraiser in February.
“You have millions of young people, many of whom took out loans in order to go to college, hoping to go out and get decent-paying jobs, and they are unable to do that,” said Sanders, who endorsed Clinton two months ago. “And yes, they do want a political revolution. They want to transform this society.”
On CNN's State of the Union:
"If you listen to the whole discussion that she had, a very important point that she made is that a lot of young people who went into debt, worked very hard to get a good education, can't find a job commensurate to the education that they received," Sanders told CNN's Jake Tapper[.]
Ah, but Tapper also asked Sanders if Clinton's February remarks about his plan for free college being unrealistic had bothered him, and he replied,
Of course it does, but we are in the middle of a campaign ... If you go to some of the statements I made about Hillary Clinton, we have real differences.
</center> <p>In the ABC interview, Sanders went on to say that on issues like climate change, increasing the minimum wage, equal pay, and campaign finance reform, Clinton is close to his positions, and agreed that voting for a third party candidate would be equivalent to a vote for Donald Trump. </p><p>So, hey, what did <a href="http: //thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/hillary-clinton-bernie-sanders-campaign-events-canceled" target="_blank">The Hill</a> do with those interviews Sunday night? They combined them with a fairly routine announcement about changes to Clinton's campaign schedule to suggest DEEP RIFTS between Clinton and Sanders, because now they hate each other SO HARD: </p><p/><blockquote>Hillary Clinton’s campaign announced Sunday night that it had canceled tentatively planned events with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) for Monday. <p>Instead, her primary rival will now be on the campaign trail Wednesday in Iowa and Wisconsin. </p><p>“Wednesday's Des Moines stop was added to make up for appearances tentatively scheduled in Iowa on Monday, October 3,” the campaign said in a release [ ...] </p><p>Though unclear if it’s related, the schedule change comes a few days after audio from a February fundraiser <a href="http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/298812-clinton-criticizes-sanders-fans-in-leaked-audio" target="_blank">leaked</a> that made public Clinton’s take on fans of her then-rival Sanders, whom she suggested were overly idealistic.</p></blockquote> <p>The rightwing <a href="http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/clinton-cancels-joint-events-with-sanders/article/2603412" target="_blank">Washington Examiner</a> took The Hill's speculation and turned it into the lede for their story: </p><p/><blockquote>The Hillary Clinton campaign has canceled joint appearances with former primary opponent Bernie Sanders after he admitted that "of course" it bothered him that Clinton seemed to be talking down to his supporters in hacked audio from a fundraiser. <p>The two were set to have joint appearance together Monday. Instead, Sanders will appear in both Iowa and Wisconsin on Monday to boost her candidacy without her.</p></blockquote> <p>Oh noes! Despite Bernie devoting two TV interviews to saying Clinton's February remarks about millennials and the economy were in complete agreement with his own views, they now <em>can't even stand to be onstage together.</em> </p><p>There's just one teensy problem with that narrative, according to Esteemed Wonkette Alumnus <a href="https://twitter.com/daveweigel/status/782937410338426880" target="_blank">Dave Weigel:</a> </p><p><a href="https://wonkette.substack.com/p/rightwing-rag-gonna-make-some-sht-up-at-you-about-how-hillary-and-bernie-are-beefing/weigel-clinton-sanders-schedule" rel="attachment wp-att-607176"><img id="85ef1" data-rm-shortcode-id="14b933e1ab568a4ca8bc8ff022a21e96" data-rm-shortcode-name="rebelmouse-image" class="rm-shortcode " loading="lazy" src="https://assets.rebelmouse.io/eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiIsInR5cCI6IkpXVCJ9.eyJpbWFnZSI6Imh0dHBzOi8vYXNzZXRzLnJibC5tcy8xNzY3MjE0Ny9vcmlnaW4uanBnIiwiZXhwaXJlc19hdCI6MTcwNTM0Mjk1M30.NNhZG3g5SBBNCTvZz9PJMkvEwW9Q4hl9VQagtG24ycg/img.jpg?width=980" /></a> </p><p>Oh. Well, that's inconvenient, even if it's factual. </p><p>Now, to prove they've patched over their wholly imaginary DEEP RIFTS, Clinton and Sanders are pretty much required to reshuffle their schedules again so they can be onstage together right quick, and everyone will have to examine the video for body language to determine whether Clinton and Sanders are just barely holding back from slugging each other. And if they did, would Clinton's pacemaker, colostomy bag, and catheter all pop out at once???? </p><p>[<a href="http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/sanders-clinton-comments-leaked-audio-absolutely-correct/story?id=42496761" target="_blank">ABC </a>/ <a href="http://www.cnn.com/2016/10/02/politics/bernie-sanders-hillary-clinton-audio-young-supporters/" target="_blank">CNN </a>/ <a href="http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/hillary-clinton-bernie-sanders-campaign-events-canceled" target="_blank">The Hill</a> / <a href="http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/clinton-cancels-joint-events-with-sanders/article/2603412" target="_blank">Washington Examiner</a> / <a href="https://twitter.com/daveweigel/status/782937410338426880" target="_blank">Dave Weigel</a> on Twitter]</p>
