Proverbs 13:24 ESV

Whoever spares the rod hates his son,but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him.

this and the whole protestant ethics mess wormed its way into every single corner of society.

I'm sorry to hear that they have "staffing issues" at Riker's Island. I know nothing about that, but I do know that at the Jefferson County, MO jail they had plenty of staff, even at the height of the COVID pandemic, and every single one of them was a sadist. I suspect this is true in most jails and prisons in the USA, so hiring more sadistic staff is not, in all respects, a solution.

Corrections officers are those who are too dumb and violent to be cops, and being dumb and violent is a prerequisite to being a cop

Good point, Queen. The bullshit you've suffered through thus far is Exhibit A in that regard. These cruel, authoritarian, sadistic types gravitate to these types of jobs.

Adams is as bad as expected. He also killed the plan for public wi-fi.

About Brigitte's claims are mostly false: "The vast majority of defendants have been released from custody while awaiting trial, but some held in jail have been kept in solitary confinement." https://www.politifact.com/...

Hers my question with that situation - how do we deal with prisoners who have multriple types of risk? For example, how to we keep Josh Duggar safe in prison? Away from most of the general population? Good. But another prisoner at the same place might need protection because they are transgender. So do we put the transgender person on a cell with Josh Duggar? Cause that doesn't seem wise either. It's really complicated in some instances.

Yeah, Luttig should be offended by that. If he were to embrace the metaphor then he needs to answer to Mango Mussolini for his whereabouts during the JFK assassination.

The mayor of NYC has a lot of power. One thing he does not have is a veto, pass the law. And Adam's better learn to get along with this council or its will be a very long four years, for him.

Why do Democrats keep voting for people like Adams. Anyone paying attention knew exactly what he would do if he won. That's the same problem we had with people sitting at home on election day while Republicans like Trump and Youngkin get elected by agitated White bigots and independents who believe their bullshit about hordes of Blacks and immigrants taking their guns and sending them to reeducation camps. We know Democrats are not going to take guns from people who legally own them and that saying slavery was bad and racism still exists is not a condemnation of all White people. It's accepting facts. Facts that racist gun nuts do not want to face, and facts that can make people safer and create a more equitable society for everyone. Yet fear of chaos and loss of rights falsely created and cultivated by the GOP and Fox News overrides logic and reason.

Trump did exactly what Hillary predicted he would do but millions of voters decided she was lying or just didn't care. The same with Youngkin, the anti-vaxxers, and the stop the stealers. This is even worse than the leopards not eating my face, they believe those leopards will not eat anyone's face. They are denying the very nature of a hungry leopard.

We definitely need some massive reforms in our prison system and how we treat those that are incarcerated. I still think that allowing prisoners access to cell phones is a terrible idea, though.

The election in which Mayor Adams won was the first time New York had experimented with ranked choice voting, and there were like 15 candidates. I contend that this guy was a whole lots of folks' third choice, and no one could agree on first and second choices.

There are many reasons I am not Catholic. One of them is that I can't get on board with the massive hierarchy system. I grew up a Baptist, I can't help it.
