In deciding to run for President in 2012, Mitt Romney ignored his family's advice and his own vote in an informal family poll, according to an upcoming campaign book obtained by the Huffington Post. Sam Stein reports that over the 2010 Christmas holiday, the Romney family took a vote on whether he should run for President in 2012. Of the twelve votes, 10 were against the idea, including Mitt himself. Refusing to see this an inevitable foreshadowing of the rest of the country, and unable to override the "% become POTUS" command line in his programming, Romney was left with no choice but to run anyway.
"Not that any of this sounds like post-loss excuse-making, not at all!"
This is not actually news! Accounts of the family vote and of Mitten's ambivalence about making a second run at the Presidency were revealed well before the election. The source? Tagg Romney. Judging from this article, it appears that Balz's book explores the matter in much greater depth and it probably provides a great deal more insight and detail, but the general outline, including what ultimately prompted Mitt to run, was reported in the media some time before the election.
A book that describes the behind-the-scenes story of the Romney 2012 campaign is not automatically a whitewash. In order to be of any value, one of the things that such a work has to do is to depict the candidate up close, which inevitably shows the candidate to be less of a caricature by revealing some recognizable and relatable traits and aspects. Hubris, for example, is phenomenon that we have all felt in one form or another at some point in our lives. Another one is self-delusion. Portraying the candidate and others who were involved in the campaign in three dimensions does not by itself constitute hagiography.
Hoo boy are they really trying to polish this turd to cast him as the reluctant "Great White Hope" who graciously stepped in as a tomato can for Barack "Clubber" Obama for the good of the party.
Neigh!
Thanks, I'll be here all week!

Conchita, the housekeeper/Eggkeeper. She just wanted the creepy man out of the house!
Their tears make me strong.
did the underpants get a vote?
proof that Santorum was right...
I figured the horse voted neigh...
so they threatened to put a lap band around his speech?
that, and deep down inside he really is an asshole
So I'm guessing the "yes" votes were Ann and Tagg.

You ain't Rocky, Mitt. Sorry.
Man.
If the Romnobot is part of the 47%, those other guys must be SUPER rich.
