Give DeSantis a larger shovel and let him continue to dig that hole. Maybe it will engulf the entire GOP.

"but it seems as if McLaughlin thinks affirmatively stating “slavery is bad” will alienate Republican primary voters. "

It probably will, it's not like all the racists are in the tank for Trump.

As for those who want to cite Christianity in their admonitions of slavery? Slavery is explicitly supported and condoned in the Bible. They might want to keep that in mind.

Of course the Bible supports and condones slavery; Bronze Age people supported and condoned slavery so it makes sense that their religions would, too.

"DeSantis is stalling precisely because he’s losing support from college-educated Republican voters, who’d rather not publicly wear white hoods."

But DeSantis is actually attempting to run to the *right* of Trump - hence those Nazis on his staff putting out those meme videos about how much Trump loves the queers and DeSantis is the Knight of the Sonnenrad

It makes you wonder why TFG is so afraid of being sent to prison.

He could pick up all kinds of valuable life skills making license plates and doing laundry.

White dude demands black folk get along and do what he says, without the talk-back. Very 21st century presidential.

But they are staying Republicans despite seeing very clearly that the party is not going to change a whit(e).

They have not just ceded the moral right to declaim on this - they are its helpers.

Their campaigns will continue to cynically target Black people for the benefit of Whites, their bodies will continue to fill seats counted for power-laden majorities, and their votes will continue to enable policies grounded in bigotry.

So, leopards and faces and schadenfreude (oh my!)...but the actual danger that they will continue to be to those who want to teach true history remains.

what's his endgame? becoming candidate and then losing his own state because he can't read the room?

DeSantis should actually welcome this. At least he isn't being asked whether Trump really won in 2020, and if he did, why DeSantis shouldn't clear the way so he can win again.

#1: slavery was not CTE!

No it wasn't. I'm unclear as to what point John James was trying to make. And I thought DeSanny was attacking all 5, but this is not my issue.

I finally saw Rob DeSaster's encounter with some sugar addicted, Iowa, kid. I knew Rob has the personality of soggy oatmeal, but watching him talk to that kid actually made me cringe. How did the GQP sink THIS low?

Expand full comment

That made me cringe for his own kids.

BTW, this is your official notice that I intend to steal "DeSaster."

Expand full comment

I thought the same thing! He must be so freaking condescending to his own kids. That shouldn't be surprising since one of his campaign ads when he first ran for governor was him reading "The Art of the Steal...err...Deal" to one of his kids.

I stole DeSaster from another poster, so please feel free to steal it from me.

As I said last night, we're undoubtedly going to see lots of video footage of him with his kids, because it's the only hope of making him seem human. (Interactions with other humans sure won't do it.) I don't know whom I feel more sorry for: the kids or the videographer.

Expand full comment

Let's just pray that none of the video footage captures his attempts to laugh like a human. I don't think I can take another one of those videos. I already threw up twice last night, so I don't need to do it again anytime soon.

"My brother in Christ" = major LULZ. I'm a card carrying atheist, and I know more about the Bible than any of these dipshits.

Expand full comment

My brother in christ is a gen z term. It's an expression you use when talking to someone who is acting crazy. I don't think he meant it as addressing desantis as an actual Christian

Expand full comment

I'm used to Evangelicals using it, and it's their term for "my homie." Considering DeSaster likes to pretend he's a Christian, as do the rest of the GQP, I'm not so sure that's a Gen Z thing.

Considering that Scott didn't see too much wrong with what happened to George Floyd, and then allowed himself to be used by the GOP as a stalling tactic with the goal of doing nothing, I don't even understand why he feels comfortable criticizing anybody. Or sleeping at night.

Uncle Tim Scott is in so deep, he'd probably praise DeSaster if not for the fact that everyone knows Rob is losing bigly, and everyone hates Puddin' Paws.

It always amuses me that both of my senators are "bachelors" who support a regime that would gladly re-educate them.

Personally I’m not a huge fan of Tim Scott implying that wives aren’t human, but I’m going to go right ahead and assume that he merely meant that women aren’t people.

Obligatory: “Scratch a ____find a misogynist.”

“What slavery was really about was separating families, about mutilating humans and even raping their wives. It was just devastating.”

Raping “their” wives. Black women had multiple “owners” I guess. Black women aren’t autonomous beings who were raped. Only in context of their relationships is their subjugation, exploitation, and rape a concern.

He’s telling on himself even as he timidly raises his hand to object to the racism of the political party he calls home.
