Paper ballots, thank you. We still have them in California, and we manage to do just fine.

It seems the Repubs believe that any Russian hacking this year will be pro-Repub and anti-Dem.

They could be wrong. One of Putin's main desires is to cause chaos in the U.S. government. A Dem House might be just what Putin wants. It won't stop Trump from taking pro-Russian action. It might even encourage him to take more, just to annoy the Dems. But it would sure stir up some fights in Washington.

If they're counting the print out, then... what exactly is the point of the touch screen, other than to enrich some Republican donor? I mean, that's usually enough, but why the extra step?

""it prints A on the receipt but saves B to a file, rendering the printout completely useless""

Unless the official count is generated by reading the paper receipt. The whole raison d'etre of the paper artifact is to let the voter check the thing that will be used in the official tally. So, the paper trail DOES exist before the vote is OFFICIALLY recorded. The official count tallys the paper artifacts. (We seem to be in violent agreement)

As I hinted before, I personally do not have a hard-on for electronic voting but if others do then I've outlined the basics of what needs to be done. If you can't understand what I'm saying after this post then I can't help you.

Except that our history in Vietnam had a much longer tale. Your point is well taken, however.

Yes, but you have to go back a ways to find him. Or go to Disneyland.

Where I vote, we have paper ballots. They have a special scanner for Democrat ballots, and they scan them right after you vote! It sounds a lot like a paper shredder, but they assure me that's just because it needs a little WD-40.

What I'm saying is that even with my fairly limited programming skills, I could write a program that every time someone selects candidate A, it prints A on the receipt but saves B to a file, rendering the printout completely useless. I could probably even write a program that prints A and saves A 19/20 times, but 1/20 times prints A and saves B.

I haven't done any programming in like 5 years, but that would take me less than an hour with the help of google and Stack Overflow.

The paper trail has to exist BEFORE the vote is recorded, not after.

Rep Joe Kennedy III has your man Beto's back; he said last night on Stephen's show that he was going to put Ted Cruz out of the Senate. By name.

Hope he's still leading in the fundraising
