“If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention to the suffering of the American people, then that’s what I’m going to do.” - JD Vance

The attention is negative, destructive and dangerous, JD. The MAGAs are not flooding Springfield with donations and offering to volunteer to address any real concerns. They are vilifying Haitian families and causing the most deranged to make bomb threats. You spread lies to boost your own agenda and anger people, because you believe that’s the only thing that matters to voters. Not hope, prosperity, joy, equality, justice or peace. Just hatred, and you openly admit you’ll spread lies if it creates a story?

I sincerely hope that the dumbass woman who wrote the Facebook post that set this off is shunned in her community from here on out. I’m sure this wasn’t her intention and she has apologized but … shit people we are living in a world populated by cranks and weirdos. WTF did you think would happen?

DemoCat's avatar

Yep, she apologized, expressed regret for having shared the idiotic story, and surely regrets becoming part of the national conversation. Much like Tim Walz’ brother, who teased that he had dirt on Tim, only to be overwhelmed by media and wingnut operatives blowing up his phone and life until he took it back and said he only meant Tim got an upset tummy on car rides, the woman (who’s name sadly has been widely reported) is sorry. Very sorry.

I think she may have discovered who her friends are.

You know, I do feel bad about this, but still ... CultureFest, Ohio ... not a promising concept out of the box.

Moni le terrible's avatar

I'm positive your celebration of different cultures is sooo much better, so no need to even try in Springfield. Amiright??!

Queroloustwo's avatar

I never thought that Ohio was known as a cheese state like Wisconsin but if they want to show of their culture that's fine by me.

Ron Spangler's avatar

Also, it should be said that Clark County, Ohio, which is basically the Springfield metropolitan area, went for J.D Vance by 22.5 points in 2022. So, you know, caveat emptor.

Jjamie's avatar

Well, it ain't happening this time. Plus. I have to say, I really dislike your superior attitude about their local festival . And you totally suck when it comes to your human compassion even if they did vote in the way you disagree. Your attitude is repugnant and part of the problem

skinnercitycyclist's avatar

It is possible Ron is from Michigan. There is a tradition of dunking on Ohio there. But you are not wrong.

Ron Spangler's avatar

I'm a goddamn coastal elitist, and I reserve the right to remain snarky. Fight me.

Jjamie's avatar

You aren't snarky, you are an ass

I Stedman's avatar

I shall. I'm here in Southern Cal, and I think "CultureFest" in Ohio is a good thing. Yeah, 's not quite the Solano Stroll in Berkeley, but it's a lot better than just "Here's is your culture, eat it". At least then there's a possibility that some other culture might be able to sneak in - look at how they scream when they discover 'school vouchers' can be used to pay for madrasas too!

Zap's avatar

Southeast Louisiana the festival capitol of the world agrees.

School vouchers and home schooling are both atrocities.

The most loathed man on the planet who has unleashed a zombie army of gun humpin nut jobs goes golfing on a course surrounded by public roads with a well-known Sunday routine can't figure out why anyone would want him dead, and so it must be Kamala's doing. He's played his last round unless DeSantis offers up the Florida National Guard every Sunday. trump's a chickenshit and the SS simply can't allow it. Stupid personified.

Well, Joe and Donnie had a "cordial conversation" in which Joe told him he was glad Donald is alright...

I hafta wonder what Donnie said, there is nothing on Twoof Socialist...

No surprise here

“Their Biden/Harris) rhetoric is causing me to be shot at, when I am the one who is going to save the country and they are the ones that are destroying the country — both from the inside and out,” Trump said in comments to Fox News Digital.

Since Shrub hasn’t come out for Harris(yet), someone MUST resurrect his 5-word review of Cheeto’s 2017 inaugural address (“That was some weird shit!”) and morph it into an ad.

I may be very mistaken, but I am beginning to think that W may be suffering from an early onset form of dementia. Not saying this in a judgy way, because it's nothing to be ashamed of.

But he really has been wrapped in the equivalent of bubble wrap for years.

JD Vance acknowledges he has to create stories to get media’s attention, yet no one mentions that if he hadn’t made up a story years back, no one would even know who he is.

JFC. Following the link Robyn provided to the NBC News article tracing the origin of the story, it becomes clear that the leaders of the Republican party bought into a story that is literally the same as the satirical "He's sick" scene from Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Then they doubled down on the nonsense to punish an entire community of people they've never met. What a bunch of dangerous weirdos.
