Following last week'srevelationsreminders of the government's extensive collection and monitoring of Americans' electronic data, sales of George Orwell's 1984 are up sharply, according to a piece in the Washington Examiner. Once this factoid hit the interwebs, the story went Full Ouroboros -- when the story broke Monday at noon EDT,
"If your Two Minutes Hate should last more than four years, please consult your physician. Or stop beating off to Bill O'Reilly."
Let's have some pity and commiseration for our fellow Wonkettonians who work in the federal gummint--can't be much fun to work at a computer there these days. Baldar's been conspicuously absent, for example.
And what was Clapper's horseshit about the "least possible untruth"? No motherfucker, the least possible untruth is not lying your fucking face off.
If only we could convince them "hey, if you liked 1984, you'll love The Road to Wigan Pier"
God damn that women pissed me off. Clearly the world would be a better place if only Greenwald wrote more stories about Justin Beber and funny YouTube videos and less about all the horrible shit the government does.
I'd sure have been tempted to flip the question around were I GG: "A bipartisan consensus in Washington has decided the Fourth Amendment doesn't mean a damn thing. Why aren't you angry?"
My guess would be Glenn's response was a little more verbose, though.
The really breathtaking thing about ignoring FISA courts is just how incredibly small a burden it is to go through FISA - for example, last night's Daily Show mentioned (I'm going off memory here so my number might be a little out) the administration made 1,749 requests to FISA to mine metadata, and every single request was granted - zero denials, none, nada, zip, zilch.

Interesting idea. Are companies in full-PR-panic meltdown mode a good investment?
Plus I heard their IT nerd just quit and nobody can find anything on the server.
Looks like I picked a bad day to give up soma.

A rare occasion to enjoy the wisdom of the market...
Work, booz, work...

Yes, it is your Kinect. Why do you think the Xbox One is going to have to be online to work?
I take it you're referring to Salinger's work, not Orwell's.
Yeah, I never understood why my sister loved it.
Chuck Todd, of all people, seems to be the only one who noticed this astonishing behavior. Congress apparently wants to be lied to.

Well, Snowball, duh.
"when the executive didn't even bother to pretend his actions were lawful"
So, you're talking about Dick Cheney.
