I can't site the source that some righteous Wonker posted earlier stating that if the wealth in this country were divided evenly every working American would realize $700,000 a year in income. I don't advocate full-on socialism but if something closer approximating stop fucking us in the ass were in affect us hard working "lessors" could put a roof over our family's heads and feed them.

#pitch forks and torches.

A quick note on Facebook and those wondering why people just don't get off it and move to something else ...

Moving from Facebook is more disruptive than moving away from Twitter.

While BlueSky and similar apps are a really good replacement for Twitter, there really is nothing I've seen that duplicates a couple of key features of Facebook that have users depending on it.

One is the ability to post longer pieces - sometimes, you'll want to write a couple of paragraphs about something, like providing some context for a news article you're posting. BlueSky and similar services limit you to basically a sentence or two.

The other really big thing is groups, basically duplicating what Usenet or Yahoo Groups used to offer. Many long-time Internet users switched to Facebook for groups and are really stuck there, with no alternative to go to. Academics still have mailing lists to fall back on, but it's difficult to set up discussion boards or mailing lists if you're not at an institution that supports them.

The only thing I regret about leaving facebook is that I didn't harvest everyone's deets before I flounced. Most friends there were also friends in meatspace so that's not a problem, but an entire branch of family, most that I haven't met, is a different mess. My sister will be my bridge until I can reestablish lines of communication. I don't regret my decision, though.

Welp, my Angelino friends and relations are accounted for, and will be sleeping indoors at least.

Cousin Mike (the dentist) lost both home and practice. Walking distance between 'em and he thought he had it 𝘮𝘢𝘥𝘦.

Bicycle Mike, another cousin, lost his shop, and doesn't know about his apartment.

My brother was lucky to be away and says his losses are very near total, he called his lawyer and is going to let him handle the insurance...

Couple others that I'm not as close to have also checked in.

Maybe I'll sleep sometime soon...

My depression is becoming more pronounced this week. I'm getting burned out at work because I'm handling a minimum of 36 cases a week in addition to a few other things I have to do. This has been the case for a couple of weeks now, with no end in sight. COVID is rampant in Maine these days.

Because I am avoiding any and all Trump news, I can't even read the majority of Wonkette articles because it's just a fucking parade of horribles these days. So that's a big loss for me and why you only see me here in the early mornings. I get that this is what Wonkette is for, but my mental health just can't take it.

The upcoming move is also stressing me out. I hate moving and I'm going to have to quit weed, which is no bad thing in the long run, but deprives me of yet another bit of relief from stress and anxiety. I haven't smoked since I left Colorado in November. I usually have no problem with abstaining but this week it's getting to me.

Little stuff is getting to me, too. Partner really only wants to do shore dive scuba diving because it's so much cheaper than boat dives. But it really limits where we can go; thus far, I'm not a huge fan. In fact, I've had only one successful shore dive out of about half a dozen.

Arrg. At least I have the weekend to recoup a bit of energy and get a break from work.

We lived on Okinawa for 4 years, where we shore dived regularly. There are great dive spots all around the island. If you’re in a good location shore diving can be great, and it saves a LOT of money if you own all your gear (which we do). Air fills were $1 at the Marine Corps dive club. We went diving over 50 times in our last 6 months there.

I guess I’m saying that, if you’re in a good spot for it, shore diving can be a lot of fun.

Well, yes. We're going to Bonaire in June and that's also mostly shore diving. But places like Okinawa are out of budget for travel. We're also planning on doing the West Coast for 2 weeks next year. The problem there is that with all the neoprene we have to wear, we also have to carry a LOT of weight in and out of the surf. We're in our 60s so that's a bit of an issue for us. We were carrying about 45 - 50 additional pounds each between weights and steel tanks. Tropical diving is one thing, cold water diving is a whole other thing.

This should’ve been a 9-0 ruling. Instead it was 5-4. Which means only 2 of the 6 right-wingers (Roberts and Coney Barrett) care if the Supreme Court has any credibility. It also means only 2 of the 6 realize that if they green-light a complete dictatorship, they’re as irrelevant as you and me.

Irrelevant yachting adventures on the vessels of billionaires, irrelevant interest-free "loans" to take care of financial obligations they'd just as soon not have the irrelevant public know of...

Those are OK, just don't make them plain ol' citizens again!
