I've long wondered...where's the boundary between weird beliefs that clearly aren't true - conspiracy theories, anti-vax, climate change denial etc - and pathological delusions that warrant involuntary psychiatric treatment?
Without commenting on this individual case (I know that's unethical), can any mental health professionals weigh in?
Yeah, us crazy people are so distinctive, we don't even need to get diagnosed. We look in the mirror and say, "Fuck me, I'm nuts", then take ourselves off to the asylum so our living in your public won't offend anyone.
Speaking as an unprofessional. When it causes direct, physical (provable/billable) harm to oneself, or another. So thinking that "sunlight feeds you" is fine.. until you're dropping of malnourishment. At which point they will try to cure you of those beliefs, since they're evidently problematic.
He should not only get the jail time he should be forced into mandatory treatment for his mental disorder, look at the man he's obviously a lunatic!
