Weird day.
Monday was interesting! On the day before the Alabama Senate election, pitting a nice Democratic guy named Doug Jones against a gross Republican named Roy Moore, who's been credibly accused of molesting young girls, Donald Trump's sexual harassment/abuse accusers came together to demand Congress get off its ass and investigate the president's bad behavior. New York Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillibrand called for Trump to resign over the allegations. In response, the White House, of course, said FAKE NEWS! The Trump administration continued the same line it's been spewing ever since the #MeToo reckoning started, that Trump's accusers' many claims were disproven when America graded Trump on the curve provided by the Electoral College and made him president by a margin of minus three million votes.
In light of all this, Monday's White House press briefing was fuckin' weird. Here's a video for you to look at:
Sarah Huckabee "Poot Lips" Sanders (we're not allowed tocall her an asshole no more, just kidding yes we are) actually seemed to get a bit rattled when asked about Trump's many accusers, for one thing. She said all the same crap about how the accounts from these women are irrelevant, because the American people judged and juried that whole situation when they barely elected him president. But shit got weird when a reporter (around 38: 00 the video) asked if she could say with "100% certainty" that the president's accusers are lying, and moreover asked, "Do you wrestle with this personally at all?"
SANDERS: I'm here to speak on behalf of the president. [ Blah blah blah more words, certainly none of which answered the question about whether she "wrestled with this personally." ]
Immediately after, another reporter followed up:
REPORTER: As a woman ... I know your job is to relate what the president says, but have you ever been sexually harassed? ... And secondly, do you have an empathy for those who come forward? Because it's very difficult for women to come forward.
SANDERS: I would say certainly that I have an empathy ... I'm not here to speak about my personal experience on that front, but I'm here to relay information on behalf of the president.
So that's ... telling. She can't say for sure Trump's accusers are lying (because no reasonable person actually thinks they are) and she sure as hell isn't going to talk about her own life experiences as a woman. Her boss in the Oval wouldn't like that!
In response to another reporter asking about whether the Trump accusers' allegations are false , Sanders said, "I'm not going to respond to that question."
The odd thing is that Sanders actually looked really uncomfortable in these moments. Maybe the veneer of calm, dishonest, self-satisfied assholery that has characterized her tenure as press secretary is starting to crack the tiniest bit.
The briefing wasn't all about Poot Lips having to defend Donald Trump the Sexual Predator. At one point, a reporter asked what the fuck is up with Trump whining so much about reporters making mistakes in their Russia investigation reporting, considering how he doesn't give two solitary fucks about actual disinformation campaigns, especially those started by his BFFs the Russians. (None of the reporters present took that moment to point out that the president is the greatest fucking liar currently living on planet Earth.) We are not exaggerating to say Sanders lost her shit , while spewing utterly dishonest fuckery. (Refer to 30: 00 in the above video.)
SANDERS: When journalists make honest mistakes, they should own up to them!
[REPORTERS]: We do!
SANDERS: Sometimes! And a lot of times you don't! But there's a difference, there's a very big difference ... I'M SORRY. I'M NOT FINISHED. There's a VERY BIG DIFFERENCE between making honest mistakes and purposely misleading the American people, something that happens regularly. You can't say ... [ to another reporter ] I'M NOT DONE! You cannot say that it's an honest mistake when you're purposefully putting out information you know to be false. Or when you're taking information that hasn't been validated, that hasn't been offered any credibility or that has been continually denied by a number of people, including people with direct knowledge of an instance!
Weirdly, Shuckabee was not talking about Breitbart, Infowars, or the Gateway Pundit. (OR HER BOSS.) Asked for evidence that real reporters do what she's suggesting, she spit out the words, "Brian Ross," and proceeded to offer no evidence that ABC's Brian Ross willfully misled people. So basically she was just yelling at reporters for intentionally doing fake news, and she ain't had shit to back it up with.
Cool story, Poot Lips.
Did we mention that the entire press briefing, Sanders openly fought with reporters who wanted to ask follow-ups, because apparently she wasn't in the mood to do her fucking job today? (Charitably, maybe she wasn't feeling well or had just gotten some bad news. Maybe her brother killed another dog on accident or something.)
Yeah. Weird day.
And it's over now, because this is your open thread, HOORAY!

Sarah Huckabee Sanders's Press Briefing Was Fuckin' Weird Today
I remember exactly one remake of "A Christmas Carol" featuring a black woman in the Scrooge role. I don't think it was the one called a "Diva's Christmas Carol," but I could be wrong.
I feel sorry for the entire Trump Administration. Those of them that are decent pp just wanting to work for public service are screwed. Trump has turned the entire administration into a target for the entire world to hate because of what he does. He will throw them under the bus in a heartbeat. I think even his own family will be sacrificed before he would ever step up and accept responsibility for anything that has gone wrong...and that is so many tons.
