Of course Satan is a literary figure. He's in literature like the four gospels, and Milton, not to mention all those deal-with-the-devil stories such as the classic "The Devil and Daniel Webster". And Lewis's "The Screwtape Letters." And rather cruddy movies like "Rosemary's baby" and the "Omen" trilogy. I'll exempt "The Exorcist" from charges of being a rather cruddy movie if you insist.
Dok, I am begging of you to read more about Lucien Greaves, the head of TST, his authoritarian leadership and his association with far-right, racist and transphobic views. TST has split several times over this, but I have never seen any of your glowing pieces about TST activism mention that. At the very best, it is weird for this blog to be supporting a self-described "free speech absolutist" who hired an Alex Jones associate as his lawyer.
Just in case you're really unaware, start here with this Atlantic article, which is pretty fair to both sides: https://archive.ph/NRI8x
Of course, if this club is actually held and the kids get beaten up or someone comes in with a gun and opens fire the Satanic Temple snarkers won't be there.
I am a Jew and an atheist so I have every reason to never want de jure Christianity in any setting, but the Satanic Temple's self-satisfied trolling at the level of a 2 AM cannabis-fueled dorm room bull session has always failed to impress me.
Then, re: the acknowledged "as expected" aspect - there has also always been a Bibi/Hamas sort of situation of enemies who have more than a vested interest in keeping the other going set up with the Shrieking Right. The Satanic Templers and the Moms for Theocracy both slurp at the same Culture Wars trough and they are mutually never happier than when they can pantomime-for-dollars at each other.
The Satanic Temple gambit about abortion (an in-state mail order (overpriced) pill business in a pro-choice state) did nothing to support the doctors and nurses on the literal firing lines in forced birth jurisdictions and was certainly no help to patients in those places, but at least it did not create peril. Here, though, there are clear and present dangers and I cannot just wink at people who will be safely far away if violence is the result of their smug attention grab.
So sorry - but no cheering here. (And no, I'm not going to fight about it.)
PS - "Supernatural" had a much more clever take on Lucifer. Just saying...
Jesus is popping quite the pup tent in that school bus line.

Hmmm, I'd like to play Devil's Advocate here for a second: "Hail Satan!!!" Okay, I feel better now.
The Devil you say.....
You know they're in alignment with the occult when they have great design chops. (Where is El Bastardito when we need him?)
i love these people - use the tools of the oppressors against them!!
I almost didn't "like" this post because I was #70...
Provocateur. The point on the graph where the hero line crosses the asshole line?

Those who troll hate being trolled.
Todd drinks pee.
What is he upset about?
Beelzebub … Lucifer … Asmodeus

I love them so much.
“free inquiry and rationalism”? That IS Satanic!

Shit, if this club can provide after school care until I pick up my son for a reasonable cost; I only have one thing to say:
"Hail Satan!"
At least Satan doesn't wait until *after you're dead* to give you any benefits...
