The reason the SC doesn't overturn convictions based of the defendant's innocence is because guilt, or lack thereof, is decided by trial courts, not courts of appeal. This is true of state appellate courts as well as federal.

Thanks for writing this! The people who should be executed in this case are the prosecutors. I'm opposed to capital punishment but will make an exception for them.

It's scary that you have to wonder how this would have turned out if this were a blue state AG asking the same thing.

This is excellent. So are last names like Glossip, Von Treese, Sneed and Bemo. Damn.

Thomas and Alito just love using their position on the Supreme Court to kill people.

Ta, Robyn. This is an almost Nice Time. We really need to end the death penalty.

Even a broken analog clock is right twice a day.

I thought Alito had already determined that not having committed the crime for which you were sentenced and scheduled to be executed was not a defense.

The next question is where is the attorney who prosecuted the case and how many years will they spend in prison for their part in it?

kmblue187's avatar

He should write a book.

So happy justice has finally come to Richard Glossip.

"[H]aving his execution date changed nine times ... eating three last meals" is cruel and unusual, right on its face.

And where is Bemo now in the ranks of officers friendlies?

Whatever you do in the south, don't get caught...

Question of the day- how likely is it that you will be arrested for attending a protest in 2025?

Marycat2021's avatar

If you're afraid of getting arrested, stay home.

The G-7 Experience's avatar

I guess we all must make that decision, but I was asking how likely we thought dissent would be crushed and how hard?

What do you think about that ?

Marycat2021's avatar

I have no opinion on that. It would depend on which state you live in.

The G-7 Experience's avatar

So why did you comment at all...?

Marycat2021's avatar

WTF are you trying to do? Save that kind of shit for Facebook.

YOU CAME HERE AND ENGAGED- WTF yourself...just go away.

"It’s not clear if Oklahoma will even go forward with a new trial, given that Republican Attorney General Gentner Drummond is opposed to executing Glossip..."

-

I wouldn't be celebrating too hard on this one yet. Don't forget that Oklahoma is ruled (the parts that is not on Rez land, yet) by the Unholy Trinity, Stitt, Walters, and Drummond. Walters and Drummond are both interested in running for Governor of Oklahoma in 2026, since Stitt can't declare himself King of Kings Of The Okies And Texans For Life, as of this writing. Since Gentner is opposed to executing Glossip, Ole Ryan is going to scream to the highest heavens that Gentner is a Wokety, Woke, Woke, Communist, Isis loving, Lib Trans, from New Yuck City for not executing Glossip yesterday. My prediction is that Ryan will do this to abort (cue Alanis, How Ironic) Gentner's ambitions for running for governor even before they get off the ground. My other prediction is that when Ryan becomes "governor", he'll find a way to execute Glossip, and five times on Sunday, just because Ryan can, because he's Ruler of Oklahoma.

In other news, even Kevin is getting tired of Ryan's caca de vaca, and a nasty feud has broken out between them. I don't think that even Steve Harvey can fix this Family Feud!!! ;-)

I'm just going to take this win and move on... no "yeah, but..." as I'm DEFINITELY wont to do. Just having a man who now gets to stay alive to fight is enough to turn off my "yeah, but" machine.

On this thread.
