Thank you for good news about people being wonderful.

It's lovely that there were so many people in Mexico that took the time to help out the turtles, despite probably have very legitimate fears for their own families and homes.

We're on the Gulf Coast, one of my clients was on the beach Friday releasing Sea Turtle hatchlings ahead of the storm that were scheduled to be released on Monday. I just redid their website, a charity that raises funds for a wildlife rescue facility associated with the University of Texas Marine Science institute called "The ARK", which was founded by a self taught biologist who was a bit of a local legend in these parts. Friendsoftheark.org if you feel like supporting their work! I have a few little things to fix on the site, but they're happy.

The Guardian on Joe Conason's new book The Longest Con. It's about all the grifting in the right wing world. https://www.theguardian.com/books/article/2024/jul/06/joe-conason-the-longest-con-book

Crazy idea but could Biden resign now, make Harris prez, and continue to campaign for next term? Heads would explode at President Black Woman and the right wing amedia would have too many circles to jerk.

HoldOnOldChap's avatar

There's a problem. Anyone who President Harris nominates for VP won't be confirmed by the house, so Mike Johnson becomes Vice President. Do we really want him to be the one opening the envelopes on Jan 6?

Elect a Dem majority to congress, they are sworn in first, problem solved.

I had a wonderful 4th of July celebration this evening:

Firefly fireworks

Little Brown Bat Ballet

Bands of Babby Buns

and a couple of yearling does watching the whole thing.

(No explody fireworks)

Your celebration sounds as wonderful as my evening, spent chopping/removing weeds, making the expected yet horrific discovery that the green Japanese beetles which nearly wiped out my roses and herbs last summer have returned! Tomorrow will need to make a trip to True Value for the same beetle-killing stuff that worked so well last year and made me wish I had learned about it sooner! But as for twilight, fireflies, bunnies, and a hungry hummingbird all paid a welcome visit to the backyard earlier, so all is as good as it gets.

The movie over if you'd like to join us there for OT. Short one tonight.

Kind of re-thinking Galveston as a retirement possibility this evening....

My Texas gulf coast excursion will just have to wait.

He aced her.

She can't even lie articulately. Crime was up during Orange Turd's tenure, and unemployment and inflation were skyrocketing in his lame duck time.

Finally got down 1.5 portions of lightly steamed veg (asparagus, summer squash) and 1 small portion of roast skinless chicken breast. The most I've eaten since Wednesday, but I did it and didn't just go to sleep! Another pair of ballet ex & arm weights to do. Thank you for all the encouragement, fam.

When my asparagus was producing I was standing in the garden eating it. Wow, was that stuff strong.

Don't go all anorexic on us, Morgan. We love you.

M-X's avatar

I am actually. It was quite severe in my late teens & through my 20’s. Trauma reaction, not the usual sort. But struggling with recurrence this year, mostly in abeyance since March but some bad days/weeks. Thank you, LS. I love you.

Lots of hugs! Let us help you if you need it! (Recovered bulimic here.)

Ate scallops and a bit of veg today. VICTORY.

The top motorsports series in North America partnered with Chevrolet, Ford, Toyota and electrification company ABB to demonstrate a high-performance electric vehicle and gauge fan interest in electric racing.

They want to represent electric vehicles, and more broadly electrification, in racing as cool, fun and accessible, said Riley Nelson, NASCAR’s head of sustainability.

I've been watching Formula E since its inception. It's good racing, would be more acceptable with more top tier drivers, but there's already a lot of former F1 and Indycar drivers involved. I'd be more inclined to watch electric nascar than what they're currently running.

Notorious J.I.M.'s avatar

Do any electrics compete in the Dakar?

Biff52 vrag naroda's avatar

Yes! The Audi E-Tron won the rally this year, in fact.

Saturday nights if I am not watching the movie I go in depth and learn about a popular song I neglected to appreciate in the past. This time I was exploring the many different versions of Iko Iko and its almost French lyrics. Then I learned there was this version by Natasha I never heard before. Makes me wild.

Memories of a mid 80s Dead show, mushrooms, and Iko-Iko in the middle of the first set.

It's been a good weekend for shutting off news and notifications, catching a few good friends for doobs, reheating leftovers, and reading brain candy books or fishing. I hope y'all are doing the same to the extent possible.

After the last, *counts on fingers* too many years, of crisis after crisis, I could use at least a year of peace to heal, but a few days here and there is the best I can scrape out, so it'll have to do.

We've got a lot of good things going for us. Let's prioritize keeping them while fighting for better things and the ground we've got to win back. Our good things weren't gifted to us: They were earned and fought for, bled for, died for, by people a lot like us. We'll keep building on those ladders.

Love and light to all fuckaducks!

I'm just at the start of day four of a small step on my continuing path of what appears to resemble Swedish Death Cleaning. Having to give access to my storage space for sprinkler upgrades has me pushing items into the house and garage, taking metal to recycling, putting all sorts of things out to the curb that people pick up (validating my storage choices?) and packing that trash bin weekly.

Thanks for this. I spent a good portion of the day sitting on the patio watching some birds and some butterflies and trying to sort of empty my mind.

Excellent choice for self care! We have freeloading finches, a couple dove who appear to be keeping the bird feed details to themselves, a family of cardinals, and one asshole Blue Jay (there's always a loud asshole at cool parties, isn't there?).

Quiet and peace are what my nerves need...AND here come the postponed fireworks :-/
