How is it possible that this many politicians and pundits have no conscience whatsoever? They lie so easily, and it doesn't seem to bother them. Wow.

As is obvious by the gleeful hand rubbing above. I hate being reminded we have conspiracy types and gossip believers (supposedly) on our side.

I wonder how they're defining 'protest'? Like, if the students don't go into the stands until he's been recognized, or if they all moon him, or...?Look, I know it's Alabama, but I promise not everyone there is an idiot.

Ah, the parsec, a unit I have used in anger many times.

It's a distance, equivalent to 3.26 light years. If you made a ruler the same length as the distance from the earth to the sun, and moved it away until it subtended an angle of 1/3600 of a degree -- one second of arc -- it would be exactly 1 pc away. Astronomers use the earth-sun distance as a baseline for finding the distances to star by the parallax method, so "parsec" is based on "parallax-second".

For a time, measuring accurate parallaxes was a specialty of mine. I gave that up when the Europeans launched the Gaia satellite, which has done the entire sky to far greater accuracy than anyone could from the ground. I wore an onion on my belt, as was the style at the time ...

Frankly, I thought Farscape was a lot more meaningful and exciting than Firefly (even despite the muppet aliens).

Cornyn is actually up next year! I was surprised by how rational (low bar) his answer was generally, and given that in particular.
