When Robyn first brought up the Arkansas initiative a couple of days ago, I warned that they probably wouldn't have enough signatures to withstand a disqualification effort. A margin of less than 10 percent ain't enough, even in honest states. The promoters of this initiative had to have known that their filing would be tossed within days.
I'm all for political stunts, if they're effective. This one won't be. They are not gonna convince anyone that conservatives are trying to steal their votes with this thing, and making s big deal out of it just undercuts the credibility of real arguments that could be made.
I signed the petition in Arkansas. The people want it but the “Christians” in the statehouse want their extremism to govern. So the clown brigade found a way to subvert the REAL will of the people. They can’t win, so they cheat.
I went on Reddit last night and asked a simple question: Why does the party that screams “let the people decide” do everything within (and often beyond) their legal power to prevent that from actually happening?
And some idiot started up with the “Democrats are baby killers and Republicans are the side saying live and let live.” The debate went downhill from there. Apparently I’m a baby killer because I believe it should be up to a pregnant person to determine what they need. He also parroted the post-birth abortion lie, massively moved the goalposts when I asked for proof, and stated quite plainly that his personal beliefs should be law because…whargarbl. He then called me a liar and said “have a good day.”
It wasn't an abortion discussion, but some person I was in an online argument with on a different substack said a thing, then not 20 minutes later when I referenced the thing they said, they claimed they never said it and called me a liar for saying they did. I mean, it wasn't like I couldn't scroll up half-a-dozen lines and see it for myself.
That was pretty much the part that convinced me that further discussion was pointless, although I had already promised the comment they were responding to would be my last on the subject.
Oddly enough, they should have been a fellow traveler. We were talking about one of PAB’s verbal gaffes — specifically, he made a reference to Don Jr, who’s been divorced for a while, as having a wonderful wife — and he kept trying to insist on rewording the quote to make it worse. I was complaining that PAB says enough imbecilic stuff that you don’t need to embellish any, and when you claim (and here I was quoting him) he said “Y” when he clearly said “X”, it just gives people an opening to say, “oh, that guy’s fulla shit, you can ignore anything he says.”
That was the point when he claimed he’d never said PAB said Y even though it was in the previous response and said I was the one making shit up.
I am pretty sensitive to stupid embellishment from our side too. The "Get a brain morans" meme is widely circulated, but I often see it altered to "Get a brian morans." It's dumb enough as it is.
George Clooney just played a doctor on TV. He has no business offering his opinion of Biden's physical or mental condition Likewise, TFG played a successful businessman on TV
We need to hit the abortion issue hard - we all know that. But at the appropriate time, we need to drive home the point to ALL WOMEN that the GOP wants to outlaw ALL FORMS OF BIRTH CONTROL.
And they DO. Various GOP leaders have addressed every kind of birth control I know of - except, of course condoms because that's a GUY THING - but anyway, it is not hard to find comments against any kind of female-controlled birth control made by GOP leaders.
These guys want to ban the pill. They want to ban IUDs. They want to ban EVERYTHING.
And if they get in power, THEY WILL.
Frame that along with the abortion issue, because that is where the GOP is heading.
Those Senate Dems are so tricksey - to hold a show vote on abortion. Those Senate repubs are so stupid - to fall into the trap set by the Senate Dems, and vote to remind everyone that they are against women's healthcare.
There are times when the decision to terminate a pregnancy, especially later stage, must be made quickly. The Physician can not sit around waiting for the legal team to decide if the condition falls within accepted legal parameters, while watching his patient die.
Well, all the rightwing opinionators are forever yearning for "The Age of Faith", when it was prayer or nothing, because the village "wise woman" could lose her life if her herbs and poultices' success aroused suspicion of demonic intervention.
92% of abortions performed are during the first trimester. Terminating pregnancies in later stages is only ever done as a matter of medical necessity, because the procedure becomes increasingly more difficult and risky. NOBODY is having a third trimester abortion on a whim or as a matter of convenience, That is simply a LIE. Termination of a pregnancy must be legal at any stage, or women will die. that is medical fact!
Some people are having later abortions - dangerous later abortions - because they were prevented by the laws of the place they live to have them earlier.
States with strict or no access to abortion are the cause of most late term abortions, I suspect.

Huckagirl governor said that "Life Wins in Arkansas." I guess Life is a cheating, lying, son of a bitch.

Ta, Robyn. Bodily autonomy for all. That includes women, transpeople, everyone.
Even Republicans? Darn that integrity.

God I hate people sometimes.
I hate SOME people all the time, awake or asleep.
Me too, until I remember "they is us."

It's a microcosm of the right wing you had there. There is only the moment in terms of history, and there is only domination in terms of strategy.

Just like they didn't get William Shatner to take over running NASA in the 1960s.
I love that sign in this post's photo.
Goobnor Sarah "Shucks" probably got a HuckaBoner® when her toady AG said that. And why isn't this in court like yesterday?

You don't have to be too tricksey with the Senate republicans ... they aren't the brightest bunch.

Unless the death is God's will, of course. Which it always is.
Insh'allah (probably spelled that wrong.)
You got it right, pbuh.
So what's up next? Just rely on prayer to heal all diseases? Get rid of the whole medical profession? Turn all the hospitals into churches?
Well, all the rightwing opinionators are forever yearning for "The Age of Faith", when it was prayer or nothing, because the village "wise woman" could lose her life if her herbs and poultices' success aroused suspicion of demonic intervention.
Yes, yes, and yes

That's a pretty fucking scummy move by the Arkansas SoS but to be expected, of course. I hope there's a lawsuit pending.
"but many of them are reportedly dismissing the Act as a “political stunt” and a “show vote.”
If its just a show vote, how does it hurt to just VOTE for it? if it doesn't 'do' anything, what is there to lose?
if the paperwork they submitted was incomplete, that would be because they were not given the correct information
Whoa if true. Because then it sounds as if they have clear grounds to sue the FUCK out of the Secretary of State.
Then, Governor Smoky Eye, we’ll see who’s immoral and incompetent.
