Karine called out those Congress people who voted against the infrastructure, but take credit for the benefits when they get back home. I wish all their home town papers and TV stations would do the same.
Speaking of back-to-school, one of my colleagues in Pittsburgh had to "send" his kid to Microsoft Teams Kindergarten today, because "too damned hot" and "school doesn't have AC or openable windows".
UPDATE: Pointing to Tarrio as the “ultimate leader” of the Proud Boys conspiracy, Judge Timothy Kelly sentenced the ex-Proud Boys leader to 22 years in prison just moments ago. The sentencing guidelines, including “enhanced” sentencing for domestic terrorism, are 27-33 years.
So why did Ethan Noredean and Tarrio get sentences so much less than what the prosecutor asked for? 18 years for Ethan and 22 for Tarrio, when the prosecution asked for 33? Were they first time offenders? I know there's a chart, but if 27 years is the bottom of the charge for sedition, why are they getting out next week???
Speaking of back to school, send good vibes, thoughts, prayers, whatever to my son.
He's in 8th grade which is bad enough, but he's starting at a new school this year and he's about as introverted as I am. I'm really hoping some extroverts and good kids come along, decide he's neat, and befriend him.
Ah, but it's the other way round, we introverts adopt extroverts and teach them introspection, critical thought, and self-actualization. I hope those extroverts understand what a gift they're getting by knowing your son.
LOL, Politico reporting that GOP voters are getting bored with Hunter Biden pR0ns:
"Aides to President Joe Biden had braced for the Republican candidates to pile on the Hunter Biden attacks during the first primary debate. His campaign even drafted a rapid response press release on the issue.
BREAKING: Wisconsin court finds that the federal National Mail Voter Registration Form violates state law, ruling in favor of a conservative group's lawsuit. The order prohibits the use of the popular form for future voter registrations in Wisconsin.
All motions to dismiss charges against Ken Paxton failed. There was a motion to dismiss ALL charges, then a motion for each charge. All of them failed 24 - 6, except one that failed 20-10.
There are 30 voting Senators. 18 are Republicans; 12 are Democrats. Assuming all Dems voted against dismissal, that means that in all but one motion 12 out of 18 Republicans joined in voring against dismissal.
I don't think that's true. If he's found guilty, he loses his job. And then the Senate votes on whether or not he can ever hold any state office in the future. That would kill fundraising/grifting opportunities in the future.
And it can come into play in Paxton's upcoming criminal trial. There's a meeting in October of this year in Harris County (Houston) to set a trial date.
Paxton was there in the room as required at 9 AM but has since left and it doesn't look like he's about to return any time soon. That's smart on the defense's part.
OT: Even Cuba has abandoned Putin. Cuba’s government has opened a formal criminal inquiry into Russians recruiting Cubans as mercenaries, which is illegal under Cuba’s Constitution.
I'm wiping my ipad completely in the hopes it will come back enough to just be an ereader. Please cross your fingers for me. A new Stephen King came out today.
𝙱𝚘𝚘𝚔𝚜.𝚊𝚙𝚙 can read all the standard ebook formats, and it probably has its own proprietary format for the ones that you have to pay for, just like Amazon does.
And then there's 𝙺𝚒𝚗𝚍𝚕𝚎.𝚊𝚙𝚙, which can *also* read all the standard ebook formats, and the Kindle ones, but probably not the Apple ones.
I've been deeply in love with Karine Jean-Pierre ever since she took down that guy who rushed the stage at a Kamala Harris appearance. She's a badass!

Is there a glitch with the video? What I'm seeing is a 15 second video. Did the press conference already happen?
I haz a confuze.
I found it on YouTube, the next item in the feed.
Thank you!
it is also back to school in the UK where school buildings are crumbling. One crumbled onto a class of kids.
Fuck the Tories

The UK does not look so good. Nice they send weapons to Ukraine, but maybe they should fix their schools.
Clearly, the answer is to put everything into charter schools.
Dotheboys Academy, W. Squeers, proprietor.
MEDA!!
Make England Dickensian Again!
I just saw the article about your troopers! I think they beat ours in sheer numbers, but they were slacking without the fake OT.
Since it’s back-to-school, can we put Doocy in the corner with a dunce cap?

There's no there there. That's the fucking problem. They've repeatedly faceplanted on all their "whistleblowers" and "bombshells".

"OK, we'll make a new one."
Does it actually violate state law, or is this another conservative nonsense ruling?
OT but this is as good a place as any:

Not good for Paxton.
It's all performative nonsense. Nothing is going to happen to him, even if they find him guilty.
I don't think that's true. If he's found guilty, he loses his job. And then the Senate votes on whether or not he can ever hold any state office in the future. That would kill fundraising/grifting opportunities in the future.

He still has to go up on SEC charges. He loses at all there - he's disbarred. He'll have to turn to religion, I suppose.
Well, they can keep him on the payroll ... have him service the razor wire in the middle of the Rio Grande.
OT: Even Cuba has abandoned Putin. Cuba’s government has opened a formal criminal inquiry into Russians recruiting Cubans as mercenaries, which is illegal under Cuba’s Constitution.
Slava Ukraini.
Being Russia’s patsy didn’t work out that well for them before. At least the US paid cash.
OP before JP comes on. Another busload of migrants arrived in Los Angeles yesterday. 42 people, many children among them.
From where? Was it Abbott or DeSantis being an asshole today?
Abbott, ever the asshole with nothing better to do.
Abattoir needs to be tried for this. He cannot get away with exploiting these vulnerable human beings like this, dammit!
Send that fucker to The Hague.
Abbott IS going directly to Hell.
So ... El Paso?

They have iBooks. And success! I now have 26 gb available!
I've been back since August 1, what are you talking about?
I hope Ms Jean-Pierre wears white after Labor Day just to piss off the Fox News viewers.
