But enough voters felt Boudin was not sufficiently devoted to public safety.SF voters, after all, are the same voters who heavily rejected the Newsom recall and who back Pelosi with 80%+ of their votes. Same voters who elected Breed with 70% of the vote.Being “conservative shit” should definitely dull her popularity, not enhance it.
And, unless sufficient force is used to get them into treatment, you will still have that minority who refuse treatment. If that minority totals 10% in a large metro area, you will not have begun to make a dent in the overall problem.As my mother aged, I saw first hand on numerous occasions how ER’s are affected by serious substance abusers whose treatments often require extra security and occasionally police presence. There are plenty of repeat offenders too. And don’t forget there are still a considerable number of alcoholics interspersed with the drug users.
The mayor has been called some interesting things in these posts. Would there perhaps be different reactions if posters were discussing and applying similar names/characterizations to a Stacey Abrams or an Aryanna Pressley?
Yeah. People don't get a pass on misogynoir when it's aimed at a Black woman whose politics you don't like any more than it's magically not transphobic to misgender or deadname Caitlyn Jenner.
Also found it interesting the new DA (African American,Latina heritage) was referred to by a poster here as a piece of shit “RepublicanKKKer”. More than a few are clearly less open minded than they believe they are.
I think it depends on how and when intervention takes place. There are lots of people on the streets who have no interest in staying on stabilizing medication or getting treatment but would they have felt the same if they had options much earlier in their mental health/addiction journey?
You would hope so. But reality often stings. The old “Leading a horse to water” homily still rings true. Had enough alcoholics in extended family to know those who needed to quit had to decide to do so on their own. Support helps but is no panacea.
As a San Franciscan, I was surprised to learn that Chesa Boudin, not London Breed, has been the real mayor of San Francisco for the past four years, and is responsible for every problem that has grown stedily worse in that time -- even in the two years before he became D.A. and Police Chief as well as mayor. No wonder Republican hedge-fund billionaires wanted so badly to get rid of him!. Now, life is good.
